The Official Queens @ #1 Tennessee Game Thread (Tues. May 7th 6PM EST SECNET+)

For some reason, Ole Miss is the one I remember as doing the 'cancel mid-week game' because of RPI / or needed rest or something.

All kinda fuzzy
Notre Dame cancelled a game or two in the past to preserve their RPI. Including the season when they won the Super Regional.

I suspect this "gamemanship" is why they did not get to host a 2022 regional.

The 2021 post-covid season, ND scheduled several nearby teams for several games. It seemed they played Valparaiso way too many times that season

Kentucky cancelled their game at Xavier tonight (a high RPI team) for legitimate weather concerns. But their tweet was unusually wordy so it would not look suspicious.

Something of note, this year’s team has lost back to back games only once. The 2022 team did that twice…

I honestly believe Tennessee losing the first SEC series out of the gate unduly influenced our opinion of them.

They have a legitimate chance to win 9 series. Exactly like 2022
They have arguably a better offense than 2022. And the out-of-conference foes in early 2022 were terrible.
I do believe this team has not swept as many teams as they could have with losses early in weekends. Kentucky, Florida, Auburn, Ole Miss

Another odd flex
Tennessee has lost only one game on Sunday in 2024 and that was by one run in a game we let 5-4 in the 8th and had bases loaded in 9th.

There's a pretty interesting list of games today. Especially considering it's midweek and late in season. Many of these games involve ACC teams. If you recall, half that league to a week off last week.

I suspect several of the games will be effected by very bad weather in areas.

Louisville
Vanderbilt 7:00

Cardinals had a easy series in BC after recent struggles and will surely be in a better headspace than Vandy. Vandy has higher RPI and lost 5 of 6.

Campbell
#11 North Carolina 6.00

Camels (27-19 | 8-13) is having a down season but are still dangerous. Tarheels have some midweek struggles .

#9 Duke
#6 East Carolina 6:00

Top 10 teams. In the hunt for national seeds. This midweek game will be more important than most

Alabama
21 Troy 7.00

Trojans are a better team and are at home. Tide has been Possums on the road in '24.

#17 Arizona
Arizona State 9:30 pm

Always important rivalry game. Devils having a down year

Connecticut
Northeastern 1:00 pm

Two teams who may make tourney too bad the game's on FloSports

Washington
Grand Canyon 4:00 pm

Lopes always want to bear PAC teams. Huskies upset Arizona 2 weeks ago but lost this past weekend at Az State.

UNC-Greensboro
Coastal Carolina 6:00 pm

Chants have to stop the bleeding. Losers of 8 in a row. UNCG has won 9 in row..

Tulane
New Orleans 7:30 pm

Ok. Not good teams. But the winners will be fishing the fans out of the Bourbon Street gutters with a win.

Wouldn’t be shocked to see both ECU and Duke using a weekend starter. That’s a huge game for both programs.

I don't think they can. The conference series are even more important and I don't think either team's weeks starters can pitch on 3 days rest.

However, their bullpen guys who normally pitch on weekends may get a shot.

Keep in mind about importance, In recent weeks, Duke has played RPI teams #38, and #7 and to close out the season the Devils play #46 and #6.
ECU has played #172, and #133 with #128 and #191 on the horizon.

With that schedule, Duke can't afford to get a little screwy with their rotation. ECU can possibly do that BUT they played a two close double header games on Sunday. So they may not be able to.

Man Louisville vs Vanderbilt brings back memories lol

What happened to them post Covid? They used to be a lock for at least a super regional seemingly every year but I don’t think they’ve even made the tournament but once since 2020

I remember a lot of folks wanted their coach when CDS was hired.

Ole Miss was the biggest and most consequential instance in 2022 when -- threatened by the prospect of missing the tournament altogether based on their record -- they cancelled a midweek game that (it was said) would have lowered their RPI, even if they won the game. By that means OM secured the very last spot and went on to win a CWS that they wouldn't otherwise have even been eligible to compete for.
