Rant, rave, predict and have the game thread all in one place.

obviously i'm very excited that the Pittsburgh Steelers will once again be heading to the big game.

i guess initially when i look at the cards right now, the big question is 1. can you get meaningful pressure on Warner, consistently? and 2. who is going to be the guy or guys, assigned the task of making sure Larry Fitzgerald doesn't single handily beat you?

i for one believe the cardinals as a playoff team. their offense will definitely be the best we've face in a while. the only thing comparable proably would be the Patriots game when there was so much to account for.....from a WR standpoint.

as physically tough as this team has proven to be, i think against the cardinals, it will be more of a thinking man's game, finding match ups, countering tihs or that.....should be interesting.

one thing for sure.....AZ has gotten off to very fast starts in the previous 3 games. they've been on top of thier opponents so fast, it makes the other team over react and think they have to get in a shoot out.

no doubt they'll want to put the game on Ben's shoulders and see if he can make them beat them over the top. that's what's freed up their DEfense to go after the qb as much as they have lately.

the Steeles on the other hand...i can see them mixing it up quite a bit on Defense. they're going to have to get to Warner and make him at least throw when he doesn't want to. and the secondary is going to have to do what they did yesterday....be ball hawks.

all in all i think this is a very intriguing match up....the two units that the two teams are best known for will be going head to head against one another. CKW gets to coach his old team, and you know he knows the Steeler personnel as well as anyone. i'm sure he'll have a trick or two up his sleeve.

But Tomlin has proven to be wise beyond his years. the preparation for this game should be interesting.

it's the Super Bowl. the Steelers have been there done that before. this is AZ's first trip and you have to wonder if there isn't just a little bit of a let down emotionally for the fact of just getting there.

plus i think the bye interuppts their rythem. that team was clicking....i think behind closed doors they'd tell you they'd rather just play this weekend.

on the other side, the steelers probably could use another week off after last night.

right now, i like the Steelers 31-23. as we get closer to the game and injuries become more clear, obviously that can change a little.

either way though i think this has potential to be a very entertaining game. and who know,s the cardinals may just shock evyerone again. that's going to be the big think for the Steelers....they're going to have to deal with a team that's going to be told for two solid weeks they have no shot at winning. those teams tend to show up mad wanting to prove something. how do the steelers counter that and turn it in to something they can use?

Go Steelers.

Well I can't seem to decide who I want to win! :) I like the Cardinals mainly because of Kurt Warner but I also like the Steelers because of Rothenberger and because they are AFC

The big problem for the Cards is their crappy D-line. McNabb had all friggin' day to throw the ball. Give Big Ben that amount of time and this game could be a high scoring affair.

I don't know. Big Ben has the propensity to just flat miss a bunch of folks. He's actually at his best when flushed. Force him to stay in the pocket and it's like Tarkenton or Kilmer from the pocket.

there's some truth to that....though last night he looked better in the pocket than he has in a while.

but when gets outside and can re set....that's how he's made his name in this game. that's when the big play happens, a la the 60 yard TD to Holmes last night. that definitely isn't something that was in the playbook.

The Cardinals controlled the game last year against Pittsburgh and that was with a rattled Matt Leinart taking almost half the snaps at QB. They'll win it with Warner at QB. Pittsburgh has no answer for the combination of Fitzgerald and Boldin.

I just hope its a good game. I really could care less who wins. If i had to pick i'd say pittsburgh by a touchdown.

I'm gonna be cheering for the Cardinals, but I'll take the team with the best defense over the best offense.

Gonna be interesting though to see which unit will get the best of the other.

I generally agree, although I will say this: the running thing we've seen this year in the playoffs is teams blowing up when the QB starts to play well. As has been said many times, there is no defense for a good route and an accurate pass.

i think the cards are going to get their most significant challenge in two weeks.

i also think the Steelers will too.

and last year's reg season game will have no bearing on the out come of this game.

if the steelers can prevent the cards from jumping out early to a two TD lead as they have done the past three games, then it should be a good game.

but the cards haven't faced a def front like the steelers all season. they'll get pressure w/out blitzing and clark and polamalu will be looking for some hits on the WR.

one thing is for sure, the steelers won't be able to count on a rookie making mistakes. the chess match between Warner and co. and the Steeler D is going to be a good one to watch.

Is this the right thread for me to complain that there is almost nothing in sports more annoying than the use of Roman numerals for Super Bowls?

I get it as a useful marketing schtick 30 years ago, but come on. I'm sick of figuring out the Roman numerals in every single article I read about past SBs. Does it really advance the cause of human knowledge that every writer in sports talks about, say, <NFL Films Voice>SEW-PER BOWL XXXIX</NFL Films Voice>, and everybody who reads it has to take a second and a half out of his life to think about out which one he's talking about? Why not just say Super Bowl 39?

The good news is that we're just now getting to the point where the Roman numerals get really confusing, and maybe in a few years that will convince the NFL to drop this stupidity and just use regular numbers instead. What percentage of the idiots in your average American bar, for example, have a prayer of telling you what "XLIX" means? This is like, once a year, having the field marked off according to the metric system (e.g., "It's first and 9.14 meters for the Bears!"). This is idiocy.

(end rant)

I'm pulling for the underdogs. Go Cards, but more than anything else I want it to be a good game going down to the wire. I hate it when the Superbowl is over in first quarter. Realistically I think the Steelers win big, but I'm hoping for a good close game that Warner pulls out in the last seconds.

Well Super Bowl XLIII is sure going to be an interesting one. If you look back over the past year or so, the easy given winner of this matchup would and should be the Steelers. The Cards have made an improbable run to reach the Super Bowl. No one saw this one coming, including myself. I thought the Eagles would sure hand them a beating just as they did earlier in the season. Yes, I am a HUGE Steelers fan and I am pumped that the Steelers are back in the Super Bowl. A Victory for them would make history, as they would be the only Franchise in NFL history with six Super Bowl rings.

In order for this to happen the Steelers are going to have to do three things in my opinion.

Protect Big Ben in the pocket, allowing him enough time to find his target. As we know Ben is incredible when he is outside the pocket, so even when this happens the protection still needs to be stiff.

RUN THE BALL. The Card's defense is nothing like the Ravens, and if anything are more like the Chargers D. Give the ball to Parker and let him shine.

Shut down and contain Fitzgerald. He is the shine and glimmer of that team. Shut him down, and they will struggle.

The Cards if they can shut down the Steelers offense, and pick apart the Steelers D ( which isn’t going to happen, I don’t think) then they have a real shot at a win. I just think that the Steelers are a much more complete team.

My Super Bowl XLIII Score Prediction:
Steelers- 35

Cardinals- 20
