Mouthbreathers? That's rich. Did I say he would have beaten Kentucky today? No. But Pearl's overall coaching record is much much better than CCM's. Good luck arguing against facts.

Cheek was hired to improve UT's rank as a top research university, and has done so.

The AD (Hart) is responsible for athletics. To say whether he will go after a big name coach or not is speculative, unless you are throwing off on Butch Jones, his only major hire to date.

Gregg Marshall and Mark Turgeon definitely turned us down. Supposedly, Jamie Dixon and Jay Wright were reached out to. Anthony Grant was even mentioned often.

Dave Hart may be a great AD. We'll never know because of who is direct supervisor is. He is a puppet for Jimmy Cheek. He'll never let him invest the kind of money it takes for big time coaches in any sport.

You are kidding. We can't beat A&M at home! Ky is just now getting their rhythm. If we played them again in 2 weeks at TBA, it would be a 15 pt blowout!:blink::blink:

The job was never offered to Gregg Marshall even though he was interviewed at two different points/years (many different media sources in Knoxville have gone so far to say that Marshall was a bad interview which is why he was never offered the job). And I do do not believe that Turgeon was offered the job because he was too expensive.

Yea, that is what you said last year. How did that turn out? I am not ecstatic, but it is easy to make those statements. Our team is just inconsistent, but I said they "can" beat UK at home. Again, if they can beat Arkansas, OM, Mizzou and the teams they are supposed to, they will be fine. Just not sure they will.

Question - If Hart was such a great AD then why didnt Bama come calling when Mal Moore passed away?

You will never hear who was "offered" the job. The way these searches work these days is that coaches are contacted through third parties and hear if they are interested. If they aren't, then there isn't a formal interview or discussion and never an offer. I have no inside knowledge, but I can say with some confidence that CCM was not at the top of our list.

You're asking the wrong guy. I don't know if he's good or bad. His previous stints have been less than impressive. It doesn't matter who the AD is because Cheek is waaayyyy to involved in athletics. He's fine as long as we don't lose money. Contray to what the media and UT would like for people to think, the AD makes plenty of money. They portrayed the money situation as in dire straits when all Cheek "agreed" to do was allow the AD to give less back to the University. What they should do is change the amount given each year to a % of revenue. Then you might see ole Jimmy Cheek want to see athletics succeed more.

I don't disagree with you on your points except I think Hart looked less than stellar during our football coaching search. Wish they would have gone and gotten Charles Davis as AD when they hired Hart!

Nevertheless, Cheek is buffoon and should get out of the way but the money and power boosters for whatever reason relinquished their standing to Cheek for some reason and who knows why and if they will ever put things right again.......

I'm 100% with you. Don't get me wrong because I think Butch has done a great job so far, especially on the recruiting front, but which of our SEC brethren would have hired Butch? Of our rivals I don't see AL, GA, LSU, FL, AU or even SC, maybe MSU, Vandy, KY, or Ole Miss? If Butch does succeed will it be because Hart's skillful eye or dumb luck while he settled?

I personally believe the University takes it's fan base for granted. It seems like a broken record for both major mens sports. Hire a new coach, fans get excited, buy tickets and spend money, three years later fans become complacent and attendance/revenue wanes, fire and hire a new up and comer, wash rinse repeat.

Pearl: 1st 3 years, 77-24, 2rd toun., sweet16, sweet16. #1 ranking in season 3.
Martin: so far, 40-34. Nit twice...and it's not looking good for this year.
We should be better. We've had the same problem every year, no shooters. He's a very defensive minded coach, but has 0 offensive game plan. The offense looks terrible, and it's hard to watch sometimes. Dude would be better at a smaller school, or an assistant at a big program. You can't win if you can't score. I hate it cause he seems like a good guy. Pearl was awesome, there is no comparison.
