Okay so, lay down a perfect bunt, run as fast as you can so you’re not out, and make sure you’re not actually running down the line even though your momentum carries you there. Got it.
With the new green bag, I guess I get that rule. But without the green bag, I always thought it was silly. The bag is in fair territory, and to get there the quickest, you run down the line. So, the rule gives the runner a disadvantage running to first. Always taught the first baseman to create a big target well inside the bag.

What’s the rule there? Have to watch with the volume off

Runner’s Lane Rule 5.09(a)(11)

A batter is out when: In running the last half of the distance from home base to first base, while the ball is being fielded to first base, he runs outside (to the right of) the three-foot line, or inside (to the left of) the foul line, and in the umpire’s judgment in so doing interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base, in which case the ball is dead; except that he may run outside (to the right of) the three-foot line or inside (to the left of) the foul line to avoid a fielder attempting to field a batted ball.

There appears be an"umpire's judgement" component - the runner must have interfered with the chance to catch.

That throw was so bad, I am not sure that was the case; I don't think Jay interfered with the catch.

MLB has extended to runner's lane to allow for 18-24 inches on the inside of the lane; basically, to the grass. So, Jay would have been safe in MLB. Runs would have scored. Id be interested to see a replay and see if he interfered with the ability of the player at first to make a catch.

Much easier for a LH hitter to comply with the rule.
