I was wondering same thing when it happened, and I think he thought since Amick backed up on the high hopper that maybe Billy was going to second with the throw to force Jack Cags out, thus backing up the wrong bag (2nd) when the throw went to the imaginary base well beyond the first base bag down the RF line.
