The Official Tennessee @ Mizzou Weekend Series Thread 3/17-3/19 (Fri. 4PM EST) (Sat. Postponed) (Sun. 2PM EST Doubleheader) (All games SEC NET+)

What happened to our pitching? That's the big question...
I don’t really think they threw the ball all that bad. Burns recorded, I think, 15 outs of which 12 were strike outs. when MO put the ball in play, it was a hit. Think Dollanders location was a bit off, and MO hit the mistakes hard. Fielding errors hurt Beem. They All threw decent, credit MO bats for hammering mistakes, they got a pitch to hit-they hit it. We got a pitch to hit-either missed or fouled it off. the lack of hitting and fielding errors concerns me.

Texas A&M is a must win series next weekend before heading to Baton Rouge next Wednesday for the Thur-Sat series with the Tigers. You can’t go to LSU 1-5 or 0-6 in conference play. If they do then this team may be out of the making it to Hoover by Mid April with their next 5 series .

Ugly weekend of baseball, but all you can do is flush it. If it happens again next week, it will be a problem… but still, Ole Miss barely snuck into Hoover last year (where they made zero noise) and then got hot and won the whole thing, so just have to stick with it. Have to find some kind of answers though.

Whatever the issue (weather, nerves, draft stakes, pressure, strikezone, worried about the bats, etc.,) it managed to bother all 3 and a few bullpen guys, which is very odd. A pitcher will have a rough outing every so often, as that is baseball. It is definitely a mind set going forward and not their ability to throw a ball. Frank will have the right words for them this week, as I am sure they are unhappy and disappointed too. It is up to them to move forward. We should be supportive, however possible, as we all know these are kids and our kids 🧡🧡🧡

Weekend reminds me of something I heard a coach say after losing one day by a score of something like 16-3.

"Boys, sometimes you just get your a$$ kicked. Y'all know why it happened." Dude just said it and went home.

Had no idea how important it was to learn that.

THankful we have a chance to play in somewhat normal weather tomorrow and start getting right.

That’s elitist? I’m simply stating I’m not going anywhere as you suggested, in fact the opposite. Losing a bunch of games by 1 or a bunch of games by 5+ lead to the same result.
On the record that's true. On our confidence and psyche? Remains to be seen. I'll be interested to see how this group responds to a weekend beat down like that.

When an entire pitching staff of this caliber is hit hard like this weekend, the only answer is they faced a talented, well coached and prepared team.

An inauspicious 1st weekend vs a SEC foe.

However Tennessee is most likely a resilient team so I’m still optimistic that they’ll have a winning SEC record even though it’s not likely going to be equal to the incredible 2022 SEC record since Tennessee was an amazing elite regular season team.

I tell my kids that it’s more important to wear the UT colors (and show your support for the team) after a loss than a win. I hope there’s a good crowd on Tuesday as this team deserves it.

UT dropped from #2 to #12 in D1 baseball poll. There are five SEC teams ranked higher than UT. This is closer to where they should have been ranked in the preseason polls based on replacing all 9 hitters in their lineup.

Notably: Grand Canyon at #25, Boston College at #16, and Misouri at #22.

3 wins over us, a win vs TCU, a win vs Texas and a close loss to Ok St says they might be for real this season.
Losses to mighty NJIT & FIU in weekend series too. OKSt is mediocre and Texas sucks ass. They're better but "for real" is a bit of a stretch at this point.

Yes! I ain't worried about our pitching at all. We are twelve deep.

Must admit, I liked the 'better defense' lineup card announced prior to game 3. Having Scott in center helps matters up the middle.

However, after watching the starters combine for zero hits off Missouri 4th best starter...?

I don't know what to do? For some odd reason, my gut doesn't like maui at leadoff. But, I have no answers.

Boston College is the real deal. Unsure about Missouri
