Not calling a TO was a good call if they had already discussed what the plan was but it just didn't look like they had a plan.

Coaching the players takes time when your trying to develop offensive skills but rebounding is a basketball fundamental, it's about boxing out and effort.

It's far easier to get a shot on a defense without the timeout than after a TO when the defense can set up, change, all kinds of stuff in the short term. I would never call a TO at the end of the game because you rarely see a game winner on a set offensive play, but you do on a defensive breakdown in transition or the chaos of the situation.

The only hope that Martin has to be successful is to recruit top players like Calipari. If he can't do that he will not be successful because he does not have the coaching skills to compete with Ky for instance and that is what I mean by successful. The really great coaches can recruit and coach or they are really great coaches like Bobby Knight. Pearl took mediocre talent, players that were not recruited by the NCs, and Kys and beat teams like Kansas, Memphis, Texas, Georgetown, Ky, and many others. Pearl was a truly great coach. Martin is not. But if Martin can recruit really great talent he can coach well enough to compete. I guarantee that this team is not in the shape that Pearls teams got into in the off season. A lot of it is what you demand of your players. Rick Pitino is another great coach who can coach better than his talent, but he also recruits great players. He is extremely demanding and you will never see his team draging their ass at the end of the game like this tennessee team.

I thought we played pretty well against a good Pitt side.... Not a bad start to the season, although we do have some tough competition coming soon!

I really think our passing and rebounding needs to improve though.
