1. He's making close to 2, and in his words has turned down 2+ million from multiple high majors because he's happy where he is.
He'll make $1.75 starting next season. $2.3+ and a chance to return to the South would make him think.
2. You don't think Wichita would give him a raise?
Doubt WSU can come close to $2.3mil. He went from $1.03mil to $1.6mil, I'd be surprised if they can pony up another $500k+.
3. You think hart pays more for a bball coach than fball coach? I don't.
Butch makes $3mil so no, we won't have to pay more for a bball coach.
4. Marshall's agent has let it be known we passed him up twice, and he doesn't think to highly of our administration because of that.
New AD with no prior involvement, Cheek only involved once and DiPietro had been on board for 3 months last time so doubt he had much involvement, if at all. Therefore, the issues with the administration should be quieted somewhat. Marshall is human, hence he has a price.
"I don't care if you pay me $2 million or $3 million. If I go home and I'm losing, it's no fun," Marshall said.
"There is value in being loved. There's value in walking down the street and people going, 'There's our coach. He's a great coach.' I don't want my children having to go to school and getting ridiculed with all the crazy stuff people say. That's not worth an extra $200,000 or $400,000 to me. My kids will have bragging rights at Wichita schools."
Note below:
The 50-year-old did not rule out leaving Wichita State if an elite program in a high-profile league showed interest, but he said he has turned down $2 million offers from major-conference schools in the past because he's not eager to mess with happy.
"I'm not in search of anything," Marshall said. "I've got a great life, great family, great community I live in, great school, great administration, great players. What more do I need? More money? That's the only thing."
The man has a price.
Wichita State would easily match up to $2 million, and I'm not confident at all that Hart would pay a bball coach more than $2 million to start.
He said losing is not worth the extra money, not strictly that another job is not worth the money. I sure hope you didn't read that and come to that conclusion, which seems to be the direction you're going with it. I don't think he loses here, he's won everywhere he's been.
There's no point in debating with you seeing as you know the spending power of an obscure Missouri Valley school.
Though he wasn't the sole man in charge he comes from a school who takes bball half as serious as we do and they paid Grant $1.9mil.
Marshall would make tennessee pay him $4 million, he doesn't want to come here and it's pretty well known.
Much like Shaka at VCU, and Stevens was at Butler, some guys are just happy where they are. Shaka makes like 1.5, but turned down 3+ at uncle supposedly. Some guys it's about more than just the money.
You and BTO seem to be the resident powers to be of the bball forum. Surely y'all have more pull than an uninformed peasant such as myself.
I'm not even a regular poster in the BB forum. Marshall was a candidate when Pearl got hired, I'm pretty sure he was a candidate, though I can offer no proof, that he was a candidate when Martin was hired.
With this Bruce Pearl thing hanging around, no coach like Marshall will consider this job.

Can't let some vocal but clueless rednecks clamoring for BP scare you away. They seem to have forgotten the path Pearl's teams were going down at the end of his tenure (including the Elite 8 team).
I would like Marshall, I'd also like Phil Jackson, neither is likely. I'm sorry if the truth of that upsets you or something. There's other quality coaches out there though besides Pearl and Marshall.
clueless rednecks?
says the guy from bg ky that asks for prayer requests for family survival after an unfortunate event with a dog
You have know knowledge of how things could unfold is what it boils down to. You have absolutely no idea what salary would get him to leave unless you've talked to Gregg lately, you have absoulutely no idea of what WSU and boosters are capable of and willing to spend to keep him yet you continue to speak in such absolutes. You arrogantly opine as if it's factual, that's why half the posters in the forum laugh at you on a consistent basis.
You look like a fool comparing our chances with Marshall to that of Jackson. You know damn well there's absolutely no shot with one and the other might be tough but is always a possibility.
PS: I don't believe Marshall is the only good coach and I'm only on him because another poster brought him up. And Pearl is a mediocre coach.
If he makes the final 4 again he'd be out of our price range anyway. Have to pay him what Butch makes.Multiple local media have reported the same. They said from what his agent has put out, from what Tennessee boosters feel, and from people inside the AD...that there's no way Marshall would end up here.
Is it possible? Sure. I just don't see the chances as very good, id put them slightly above the chances of Pearl returning.
