The Official Tennessee vs VA Tech Fall Game Thread (Sun. Oct 22) Greeneville, TN 1PM EST

As I’ve said many times before, I really hate that MLB eliminated so many minor league teams, including the one in Greeneville. Take a look at the notable players who passed through there when it was a Houston affiliate:

Absolutely agree. They'll never be able to justify it to me. Just greedy and unnecessary.

Also, when the Reds were the affiliate, they had one of the best minor league logos I've ever seen: Mr. Redlegs in a coonskin cap.

Yes, it was a great logo. Yesterday they still had some of the Greeneville Reds jerseys available for sale.

Though the Reds were the parent club there for only a short time, Jonathan India played there.

If anyone who was there cares to chime in, I’d like to know how some guys looked in the field. Moore at SS? Backus in CF? Does Tears look any faster/better able to cover ground? Perry at SS?

I only stayed for about 11 innings, so I missed a lot on the backend of the scrimmage. CMo looked good at SS. He made two really good plays, one in the hole and one on a dribbler over the mound.

Backus did come in later. Honestly, I don't remember his AB's or anything bad in the field, so that's probably good.

I'll admit to being the biggest KT fan and I sure hope that young man has a great year. I've seen a couple scrimmages this year and he's been hitting it hard, just not against VT. Hopefully he has a big year for us. And he looks about the same in the field to me.

For your specific question, not sure I remember Perry playing in the field.

Other thoughts..several of the pitchers looked good. Schaeffer in particular. Didn't see Dallas even on the roster, but neither was Russell or Denton. Our pitching depth looked good. Will be interesting to see how they use Marcus Phillips this year. He cuts an imposing figure on the mound.

Hitters..Amick, Dreiling really impressed. Think Dreiling may be in for a big year. Only downer note is that I think we really need someone to step up their hitting at the C position. Not anything really earthshattering there, but that spot in the lineup wasn't productive at all in the innings I saw.

Like everyone else, that was a very nice little park up there at Tusculum. Was rwally impressed with it.

Thanks, man. Assuming Peebles plays Catcher, we should be fine there from a hitting standpoint. Just have to see if he can handle the position defensively. Also interested to see what Stone Lawless can do.
