The Official Tennessee vs. Western Carolina Game Thread, 7:00pm ET, FSS

That's what I said. From th get go those 2 were going at it, stokes posted harder than I've ever seen (unfortunately he was rarely rewarded). However, he straight demanded the ball a few times, and either drew the foul or made the bucket.

I want to see that aggressiveness every night. His stat line may not jump off the page but I thought that was one of his better games.

Definitely agree. And he made more free throws than usual (at least, it seemed like it).

McRae and especially Richardson played well too. Golden really, really couldn't couldn't shoot today, but other than that, he played well. McBee ended up playing ok. The only person who played really poorly was Moore.

Edit: Dang, Hall played well in the second half.

zzzzz...yep, I went to sleep watching tonight & missed most of the 2nd half. Glad we won, but this brand of bb is a snoozer. Good thing SEC roundball is crappy.

Hall did play better at times tonight. I admit to being tough on him. But basketball is about little things, and he happens to do a couple of little things that are my biggest pet peeves.

I see it too, and I think Martin does as well...there's a reason a guy who has 13 boards, 9 points and is shooting 50%fg 100%ft only got 20 minutes.

It's a shame though, because if he could fix those things, and play 25-30 minutes a night, he might seriously be a 12/12 type of guy.

It has to frustrate CM. They aren't teaching Hall to bring the ball down to his ankles in order to finish at the rim. No coach has taught him that. He about ripped a towel in half in frustration watching Hall make another unforced error, when all you have to do is make a simple move. If he could just keep the ball up, get it up quickly with either hand and finish, rather than having to gather himself, he could be nasty. That's why it's so frustrating. Give and go to Yemi is quick on the square and in. Give and go to Hall is a gather himself, jump off 2 feet and allow the D to try and make a play because it took so long.

Golden was only 1-9 from the field and UT won by 14. That doesn't happen much. Thank goodness they made their FT's.

This team is still a work in progress. Stokes stands flat footed too much for my liking. He seems club footed at times.

These next 2 games will really show where this team is at. If they can win those, they can start SEC play with a lot of confidence. Right now, this is a NIT team. They need to prove that they are a NCAA team.

McBrick needs to go, horrible and he's a starter. that shows how bad we are.

2/8 is pretty bad, but basically everyone had a bad night shooting. At least he (and the rest of the team) played good defense.

I'm really starting to think the injury messed up his shot.

He and Richardson played better D than anyone tonight. His shot was off. Seems like he had a couple of boards and some good entry passes.

He played more minutes than anyone else on UT. I don't think McBee is a starter, but he didn't do anything to hurt us tonight.

Liked seeing Josh Richardson attack the rim. He showed some flashes of greatness tonight. Hopefully this helps his confidence and he will continue to attack the rim.

Josh did great attacking the rim tonight as you said and I hope it is a confidence builder for him. Josh has the physical tools and ability to take it like that against almost anyone.

McRae was also aggressive looking to drive rather then shoot bad jumpers and while he didn't see all those layups go in he did get to take a lot of foul shots so it was a good offensive performance outside a few really bad passes he made that led to turnovers.

Trae was not nearly as aggressive driving the ball tonight as usual, but the WC defense kind of made it difficult for him to do that. I didn't see many opportunities for him to cut, but he did miss a few open guys off pick and rolls. I think he saw Stokes and Kenny roll open, but hesitated. Trae did make a few really sharp passes though and a couple good ones over the top of defenders essentially passing a man open.

he's just a role player

Affirmative. And if Golden, McRae and Stokes are all struggling offensively then this team is going to struggle.

Hall played pretty well. He had 9 points and 13 boards in only 20 minutes. I'll take that every day. He still is turnover prone. He had 4.

Golden is the key to our success. Just as last season,,I am concerned with our lack of a backup PG. Trae got worn out by the end of last season and it looks like it could be a repeat.

If Golden goes down this team will be horrid to watch. Moore has shown me nothing. He played 2 minutes and had 3 fouls. That's atrocious. Hell, walk on Brandon Lopez is more valuable than Moore at this point.

Can't wait till next year when Maymon, Stokes, Hubbs, McRae, and Golden take the floor. That's a hell of a starting five, and combined with Richardson, Moore, Chevious, Edwards, and Yemi off the bench, we will win the SEC.

Moore has good instincts around the rim but has the worse ball handling skills of any PG I have ever seen. His value lies in being a backup driving SG. He is just too horrid to conribute consistently at PG. We will have to roll with Lopez at backup PG, but hopefully Golden will play close to 33 a night next season and stay healthy.
