Well omitting the last two years of recruitment and all the transfers makes it seem a lot worse than it really is. I believe we've taken six recruits in the last two classes? The rather scary problem is only Addison Nichols is getting any playing time among those younger players right now.

This is why Deion is going to get a lot of people fired.

This reason is no longer valid in today’s college football.

Most everyone’s recruiting classes are going to look like this from now on.

I used to have a 2/3 rule. If 2/3 of a class panned out, it was a good class. That’s dead and gone. If 2/3 of your class is still on campus in 2 years, it was a hell of a class

Plenty of blame to go around but we all agree the OL is a HUGE problem. Well when you are this it should make more sense. I mean this is Dooley level incompetence.

2019:
Darnell Wright — NFL
Wanya Morris — transferred
Jackson Lampley — reserve
Chris Akporgoghene — transferred

2020:
Cooper Mays — starter, currently injured
Javontez Spraggins — starter
James Robinson— transferred
RJ Perry — transferred

2021:
William Parker — transferred
Jeremiah Crawford — starter
Heupel was left worse than Jones... by a very long shot.

I am hoping we hit the portal aggressively for o linemen as soon as the window opens. We have some good young pieces and some blue chip OL committed for the 24 class but need proven guys who can contribute immediately.

This.......I think we could have a pretty stout line if we could snag a lineman or 3 in the portal that can start immediately. I like the transfer rule now.....especially if it keeps working in our favor.

Also, if we bring back Will Friend I think our O-line will take that step to elite!!!!!! 😆😆😆😆😆😆🤣

I dont know man, Deion is 1 man with an enormous amount of notoriety. BUT, he is about the run the gauntlet, playing Oregon then USC back to back. If he wins either game, the hype machine is going to get out of control. I will be surprised if they win either game.

That being said, he can only get so many kids to come, especially starters. And if they lose both, I think it will expose the real truth about his team, that they are still Colorado no matter how many rappers and basketball players are in attendance.

yeah but I will point out that Heupel's had 2 full cycles to bring in quality depth at this point. I know we were facing sanctions and stuff but that didn't stop him from closing on a 5 star quarterback and blue chip players at other positions. Luckily we've done alright in this upcoming class but it only sucks that we might have to wait a year or two unless they're rockstars right out the gate.

He's going to get a lot of people fired because they passed on Him in the first place, or He's a better coach.... one or the other.

With transfers in it is more like 11 unless I counted wrong.

And we took like 11 guys in the 2 years after that. We can't control transfers out. He is bringing in a lot just about every year.

Quality depth won't come from 2022 or 2023 signing classes. They tried in the portal and got what they got (Campbell and Karic). transfers have been starting But IMO, not playing at a high enough level to compete in the SEC, nor was many of our OL as we saw Saturday. Portal is always a crap shoot as there is not going to be large numbers of quality there with offensive lineman.

Here are numbers on the top 120 offensive lineman signed in 2022 out of high school. 90% of these won't start until third year on campus.

18 of them did not redshirt. Of that 18, only 6 earned or had to start for their team. So that is a breakdown on the depth coming out of high school recruits.

There are way more players on the offensiveline than the ones listed above. I’m not gonna go look it up but one name I recall is Addison Nichols. He was a big get in the 2022 class. He’s on the roster and was thought to be pushing for a starting job. We also brought in several guys from the portal the last couple of cycles.

This was always going to be our thinnest year on the office of line and then losing Cooper (and Mincy for Florida) added to the woes.

But make no bones about it… The biggest issue on this team is at quarterback. Nobody (serious) could deny Milton has played very poorly. Just like essentially every previous game he ever played for us. Or every game he ever played at Michigan.

Sometimes it’s a simple as this… You can’t have a really good all fence without really good quarterback played. And athletic got back there would immediately make the entire all fence look better. And furthermore… The offensive line hasn’t done terrible at pass protecting this year. Milton hasn’t been hit or sacked a lot.

Not sure if this is the correct thread for this comment, but I seem to have missed something somewhere. With all these comments about HS signees and transfers, I thought the NCAA still has limits on how many players you can sign in a given year (i.e., a max of 25 - 30). So how in the world does Coach "Prime" bring in 80+ new players in one year? Something smells rotten in the Rockies. I doubt many of these kids can afford to come in as walk-ons, especially with out-of-state tuition fees.

He ran off most of the existing roster when he got there.

I understand he ran most of the existing players off; what I don't understand is how he can bring in more than 30 new players in one year. Unless there are coaching change alternate rules, I don't think he can legally bring that many players in at one time. That's one of the things that handcuffed Heupel when he first got here when we had all of those players leave.

That rule was suspended in may 2022.

I believe the 25 was suspended the year after Heupel got here plus we were trying to self impose overall scholarships in hopes to reduce sanctions. Now the 85 player limit is the current rule due to NIL and transfer portal. I do not know if that is permanent.

Hence the portal. We also brought in Juco Crawford. So basically everyone who plays meaningful minutes is a transfer except Mays, Spraggins, and Lane.

I imagine it is permanent. Easier to just say don’t be over 85. To limit to just 25 with the portal would just cause more problems.

True, but you have to remember that he'll have his pick of players also. Still a long season and recruiting is fluid.

You are mistaken on a couple of counts;
1. Joe Milton isnt the biggest problem
2. Plenty of people with football knowledge say he isnt the biggest problem

Im of the opinion that the average fan devalues the importance of the O line because they are never ever mentioned by the tv announcers unless they make a glaring mistake. Having two walk on O lineman starting in the SEC will make any offnlense pretty average.
