The Ole Miss game was Tennessee basketball.

This group is certainly elite defensively and rebounding-wise, and will always be able to play with anyone in the country. My only wish is for Barnes & Co. to come up with ways to avoid the shooting droughts that have killed us in big tournament games, and even hurt us in the 1st half tonight.

Living and dying with the 3-ball based motion offense is great when shots are falling, but there has to be an alternative when they aren't. Tonight it was pounding the ball to Aidoo and Awaka, which opened things up big time in the 2nd half. I'd love to see more P&R and DHO type actions to free up Knecht and give him some open looks. We used the P&R effectively with Aidoo as the roll man in the 2nd half, and it blew the game open along with our offensive rebounding.

This group is as good as anyone in the country, but I don't believe that Barnes has had an offensive weapon like Knecht since he's been here. They need to find ways to get him going when those droughts hit. Just my opinion.

The offense was creating really good looks at the start of the game. I think UT was 1 of the first 9 and none of the misses was a forced shot. There’s always going to be a degree of randomness since shooting 35% from 3 is pretty successful. If only 2 of those 8 missed shots had gone in it wouldn’t have seemed like a problem. If 3 of 8 would have been good it would have been a nearly great percentage. You have to keep taking the shots. It pays off later by creating better scoring opportunities near the basket.

Yes. Absolutely. A number 4 seed ousted in the sweet 16 is not good enough for me. One appearance in the elite eight in the program’s entire history is not good enough for me. Having the sweet 16 as our program’s historical high-water mark in the NCAA tournament is not good enough for me.

And I’m certain it’s not good enough for Coach Barnes and all our players and staff either. I’m 100 percent behind Coach Barnes. Let’s hope he gets it figured out this year. This could be his best team at Tennessee.
Getting ousted in the sweet 16 is what 4 seeds are supposed to do (and 2 4-seeds didn’t make it that far last year). It’s not the goal but also far from underachieving.

“Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all the time thing. You don’t win once in a while; you don’t do things right once in a while; you do them right all of the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game, and that’s first place. I have finished second twice in my time at Green Bay, and I don’t ever want to finish second again.

There is a second place bowl game, but it is a game for losers played by losers. It is and always has been an American zeal to be first in anything we do, and to win, and to win, and to win…

Every time a football player goes to ply his trade he’s got to play from the ground up – from the soles of his feet right up to his head. Every inch of him has to play. Some guys play with their heads. That’s O.K. You’ve got to be smart to be number one in any business. But more importantly, you’ve got to play with your heart, with every fiber of your body. If you’re lucky enough to find a guy with a lot of head and a lot of heart, he’s never going to come off the field second.

Running a football team is no different than running any other kind of organization – an army, a political party or a business. The principles are the same. The object is to win – to beat the other guy. Maybe that sounds hard or cruel. I don’t think it is.

It is a reality of life that men are competitive and the most competitive games draw the most competitive men. That’s why they are there – to compete. The object is to win fairly, squarely, by the rules – but to win.

And in truth, I’ve never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn’t appreciate the grind, the discipline. There is something in good men that really yearns for discipline and the harsh reality of head to head combat.

I don’t say these things because I believe in the ‘brute’ nature of men or that men must be brutalized to be combative. I believe in God, and I believe in human decency. But I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour — his greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear — is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle – victorious.”

Brother, with all respect, I’m not sure you would want me as your coach. Go VOLS!

Brother, no disrespect, but quoting Vince Lombardi doesn’t make you a coach.

Some folks have never understood that in a game between two teams, 50% of the teams involved lose. Everyone can’t be in the Final Four and everyone can’t win a national championship. It’s such a rare accomplishment, yet some lament that Tennessee stinks. I’m enjoying the ride.

Full disrespect and a bonus eyeroll for that dumba$$ comment.
Well if that’s the kind of thin skin you’ve got, I definitely don’t want you cosplaying as my coach 😝

Maybe that pompous **** works better when you say it in the mirror though. 🙄

Do we have any players from the portal other than Knecht and Gainey? The rest are Barnes recruits. Maybe Coach Barnes learned from the tournament failures in the past.

How many portal players have taken a team to the final four? Barnes' "failures in the past" are because he didn't hit the portal? 🤣🤣🤣

We are elite. Not just good.

We are ELITE.

What we saw was a preview of what this team can and will be.

What I saw was tremendous ball movement, unselfish play, improved shooting, interior dominance, lockdown defense.

Mashack & Aidoo for the game ball.

Ziegler played excellent. Slashing. Cutting. Dishing. Hitting 3s.

Vescovi was making plays hitting 3s.

James was productive, active, and aggressive.

Aidoo was incredible. Mobile. Dominant. Accurate.

Awaka played productive minutes.

Last but of course not lease—Dalton Knecht. This dude is the real deal. He’s learning to fit within the system and I think he’s gonna have some incredible performances on the way to a SEC championship.

This team hasn’t even started playing it’s best basketball.
Aidoo and Awaka just need to keep progressing offensively to give the three point snipers more open looks and paired with the always elite defense, this team has a good chance to make a very deep run in March.

Tough game Wednesday at the Hump. Gotta bring that game on the road.
This game may come down to one possession to determine the winner. I think the line will be Tennessee 2.5 or 3.5 favorite. This will be a good test for the Vols. If the Vols are truly contenders in the SEC we should find a way to take these next two road games against what many to consider lower level conference teams. Go Vols!

I’m thinking we will be favored by 6.5 - will be interesting to see that line which should be out soon?

Watching MS ST and USCe Saturday, they have both upgraded their talent. Hell, SEC may be the best conf, top to bottom.

I think it is the best conference from top to bottom. Only see Vandy as truly being really down but they will be up to play us.
