Two questions:
Is the team practicing somewhere now, or are they off shopping or something?
Is this game televised anywhere besides the PAC-12 network? I can't find it on ESPN3.

I went to UTSports.com and looked at the schedule for the tv game time. Sad to say it's only available on the PAC-12 Network but you can listen to the game from it. That's weird. I've never seen that before. :dunno: You'd think it would be on WatchESPN.com though.

U T most likely don't want another embarrassment shown to vol fans. Russell doesn't deserve to be on scholarship and she is tall that's all.

This could be another loss. Oregon State has shooters and a 6'6" Center plus they are well coach. Their coach have them playing tough and they know what to do on the offensive end. I can only imagine they had this game marked on the calendar feeling that they should of beat us last season.

I don't think all this vitriol should be heaped on the players. If Russell doesn't know how to post up then it is the coaching staff's responsibility to teach her. It is also the staff's job to make her play were they want her. If she refuses, then the coaches should be disciplining her.

I'd change that prediction from "could be" to, unfortunately, "will be" another loss. Not difficult to predict.

Russell knows how to post up, but she needs to get stronger and tougher around the basket. It's not easy. This idea that we'll score if we can just get the ball to her and Graves is idiotic and neither of them is a natural scorer. We have no natural scorers on the team except DeShields and Cooper. You need a system for getting people open--anybody, everybody, and creating easy shots--but we don't have it.

Our once proud Lady Vols are no longer relevant on the national stage. That may be hard to hear, but it is the truth. We are still somewhat of a force in the SEC but that's all. The only way we will get back is to hire a great coach. The tradition, facilities, and fan support are still in place. We shall see after this season if our AD cares about the Lady Vol basketball program and where it is headed.

The History Channel....The fall of the Lady Vols College Basketball Program...See what led to the collapse of a once great women's college basketball program....Marvel at the decisions that doomed a loyal fan base to argue among themselves...Hide your eyes in terror as you see the decisions made by their confused leader Holly, the foot stomping, Warlick....Try not to leave the room when you see Holly change seats on the bench thinking that would help....This program will be on right after the Fall of the Roman Empire, and Hunting for Hitler...It will be brought to you by Pepto Bismol.

Thumps up brassie: the coaches have to see the same things commentators and fans mention and see. How can they miss it. Russell is a liability maybe because she is dumb as a rock and just not getting it, she is refusing to follow the coaching plan, or she is not being coached properly. I am going with number three. I feel bad for her because I feel she is trying her best.

Let's don't forget this is a homecoming game for Nared, Russell, and Reynolds. Let's hope they get to enjoy time with family and friends while they are here.

Most coaches would agree that posts take a lot longer to develop than guards. One reason is that many faced little competition in high school. When the opponent's tallest player is 5'10", a 6'6" player can do quite well by just being taller than everyone else. They can coast by on their height and really are not pushed to develop a lot of skills/post moves. In high school, they don't have to. When they get to college, everything changes because all of the top teams have posts who are just as tall, if not taller, than she is. This is where coaching and development come in. This is Russell's third year with the team. Even though she sat out of games last year, she was able to practice with the team and learn from the coaching staff. With proper coaching, this year (her third) should be her breakout season. I haven't seen it yet, but the season is still young. I tend to be less patient and less forgiving with guards. They don't have the same learning curve as the posts.

The program was on a downward trend before Holly took over. Let's be honest. Coaching can always be better, but the fact is that competitors are getting much better and much more numerous than they were in Pat's hey day. Not to take anything away from Pat because she was a great coach, but the WBB landscape is many times tougher now than it was 10 years ago. Like it or not.

Does anyone know how far their families live from Oregon State? Just because they are in the same state does not mean they are close. They very well may be, but I have never been to Oregon so I don't know. A homecoming game in Knoxville for an opponent would be a bit tough if that player grew up in Memphis.

Are those three planning to stay in Oregon for the holidays? Is everyone on the team flying home directly from Oregon for the holidays or is the team returning to Tennessee as a unit before departing for winter break?

Russell is from Springfield and Nared and Reynolds are from Portland. All are on the I-5 corridor with Corvallis where the game is. Springfield is about an hour away and Portland about an hour and a half from Corvallis. Western side of the state.

Thank you, LVJeff. It sounds like everyone is close enough to see the ladies in person. There should be a lot of family and friends there to cheer them on.

This is very true.

You are most welcome. It can't be easy for an 18 year old to leave home and go all the way across the country. I do hope they are able to spend Christmas here and reconnect with family and friends.

Well, knowing Warlick, I'm sure she'll give all three of our Oregon players PLENTY of PT even though Reynolds should spend nearly all of the game waving to family and friends from the bench, which is where she belongs after her woeful play this year. The problem is that we have no shooting guards (except DeShields, who can be considered either a 2 or 3): we have four guards (Carter, Middleton, Cooper and Reynolds) whose best position is the point. Among them, only Cooper is a natural scorer--which you don't always need or want in your PG, whose main job is to ensure that the offense is running efficiently, which of course ours does not. We are giving Reynolds and Cooper lots of minutes and they are neither scoring or running the team well or playing great defense. We probably need to start playing fewer guards, and try a bigger lineup with just a PG (my vote is Carter) and DeShields at shooting guard. You can't keep playing people who are performing poorly.
