Most coaches would agree that posts take a lot longer to develop than guards. One reason is that many faced little competition in high school. When the opponent's tallest player is 5'10", a 6'6" player can do quite well by just being taller than everyone else. They can coast by on their height and really are not pushed to develop a lot of skills/post moves. In high school, they don't have to. When they get to college, everything changes because all of the top teams have posts who are just as tall, if not taller, than she is. This is where coaching and development come in. This is Russell's third year with the team. Even though she sat out of games last year, she was able to practice with the team and learn from the coaching staff. With proper coaching, this year (her third) should be her breakout season. I haven't seen it yet, but the season is still young. I tend to be less patient and less forgiving with guards. They don't have the same learning curve as the posts.

I think Tina Charles was the best center to ever play for UConn. If you look at her development she was an OK player at the start but nowhere near her potential. It took 2 1/2 years for her to "get it" and that was with Auriemma on her ass every single day. To her credit she took the criticism constructively.

Tina Charles is one of my all time favorite post players! She was awesome her Jr and Sr year.

What's with everyone wanting Diamond to shoot all the shots. Since she started she's been taking the most shots a game and her shooting numbers aren't good either. Bash is still shooting 70 something % and still not getting that many touches.

Well, knowing Warlick, I'm sure she'll give all three of our Oregon players PLENTY of PT even though Reynolds should spend nearly all of the game waving to family and friends from the bench, which is where she belongs after her woeful play this year.

Not playing the Oregon ladies at their homecoming game is like not starting all the seniors on Senior Night. This may be the only chance their friends and families will have to see them play live during their four years of college. It doesn't mean they have to play forty minutes each, but let them start and take them out at the first media time out, if needed. They have given up a lot to play so far from home. It's time for the program to give a little back.

Graves reminds me a lot of Morgan Tuck, Same position, same size, similar stats (Graves has a better FG%, Tuck more points). Both are dependable, blue collar guys that bring it every game.

The biggest difference in stats - Tuck has taken 98 shots in 8 games. Graves has had 57 in 10 games. That sure supports the "not enough touches" point. The problem is that if you can't hit from outside the opponent packs the paint and getting the ball to a reliable scorer down low becomes difficult.

Regarding television viewing for Comcast, if you have the Sports Entertainment Package, the game is on channel 497 here in the northeast. Note that neither the channel nor the game is listed anywhere in the listings on the Comcast website. I found the channel info here: Get Pac-12 Networks | Pac-12
If you log into Comcast online, you can also stream the game here. Pac-12 Live Streaming | XFINITY TV

I have no idea if that will work for other parts of the country, but it's all I've got. :dunno:

Tuck has more moves. She may not shoot as high a clip, but look where she's shooting from. She's got the post moves, the mid range game and the outside shot.

Whoever said UConn only has two stars missed out on Tuck. She's a helluva player.

Bashaara needs more touches, but the other players also have to help her out by not allowing opposing teams to pack in the paint and not allow her space to operate. If a guard...any guard...could dependably score from the outside, that will make Bashaara's life that much easier.

To beat a zone you don't necessarily have to shoot the three ball, you can kill a zone with ball movement and screens. But the team can't even run a simple motion offense.

Let's don't forget this is a homecoming game for Nared, Russell, and Reynolds. Let's hope they get to enjoy time with family and friends while they are here.

Dat part scares me the most. Nared prolly will play, Russell and Reynolds, whateva. They both play like whateva.

I've never seen a lady vols team so soft. This was the worst team Stanford has put on the floor in 10 years and they beat us...omfg.

Could be a slaugther if we play uninspired bball, could get ugly quick, especially the way Oregon State score the ball.

The difference between the two is Tuck is more of a threat on the offensive in and has a much better face up game. Also Tuck has a little more leaping ability.

As far as the stats for BOTH Graves and Russell, the gameplan against our team is SUPER easy - play a zone and have at least 2 players always denying our posts. Our team doesn't pass well enough to get open shots to our guards and unfortunately the guards always (to this point except Dunbar who never gets the time of day) shoot poorly even if they do manage a shot. The defense is in a zone, so they are guaranteed to have 3 players on the glass getting the rebound.

That's one way we rack up turnovers trying to force the ball in the post and it's also why Graves and Russell have spotty and inconsistent offense because the defense is committed to making the guards beat them (which again, so far they haven't).

Let's see. We won National Championships in 2007 and 2008 and Holly took over in 2012 and this program was on a downtrend for a long time before Holly took over? Was the program on a downtrend between 1997 and 2007? Or was it on a downtrend between 1991 and 1996? Don't quite follow the logic the program was on a downtrend before Holly took over.

Also, not too impressed with DD play. I was kind of concerned about her transferring to Tennessee. However, I thought her attitude was good in interviews etc. However, she is good at jacking up the ball and little else so far. Doesn't seem to be much of a leader either.

There are dozens of posts like this on this board and others. Some of these problems are so obvious, I can't understand why the coaching staff isn't seeing the issues, or if they are, then why aren't they fixing the problems?

ETA: And where is Lockwood in all this? He's been around the block a few times and should be able to see that his posts are getting smothered. Has he no voice in the offensive game plan? And has he really been unable to coach Russell up to a better level than this, now in her 3rd year here?

No comparison. Tuck is a superior player, teammate and leader. Tuck is a basketball player, she plays to her strength, she seldom disappear, she present in every game and Tuck is a very confident player.
