Most coaches would agree that posts take a lot longer to develop than guards. One reason is that many faced little competition in high school. When the opponent's tallest player is 5'10", a 6'6" player can do quite well by just being taller than everyone else. They can coast by on their height and really are not pushed to develop a lot of skills/post moves. In high school, they don't have to. When they get to college, everything changes because all of the top teams have posts who are just as tall, if not taller, than she is. This is where coaching and development come in. This is Russell's third year with the team. Even though she sat out of games last year, she was able to practice with the team and learn from the coaching staff. With proper coaching, this year (her third) should be her breakout season. I haven't seen it yet, but the season is still young. I tend to be less patient and less forgiving with guards. They don't have the same learning curve as the posts.
I think Tina Charles was the best center to ever play for UConn. If you look at her development she was an OK player at the start but nowhere near her potential. It took 2 1/2 years for her to "get it" and that was with Auriemma on her ass every single day. To her credit she took the criticism constructively.
Well, knowing Warlick, I'm sure she'll give all three of our Oregon players PLENTY of PT even though Reynolds should spend nearly all of the game waving to family and friends from the bench, which is where she belongs after her woeful play this year.
What's with everyone wanting Diamond to shoot all the shots. Since she started she's been taking the most shots a game and her shooting numbers aren't good either. Bash is still shooting 70 something % and still not getting that many touches.[/QUOTE]
Graves reminds me a lot of Morgan Tuck, Same position, same size, similar stats (Graves has a better FG%, Tuck more points). Both are dependable, blue collar guys that bring it every game.
The biggest difference in stats - Tuck has taken 98 shots in 8 games. Graves has had 57 in 10 games. That sure supports the "not enough touches" point. The problem is that if you can't hit from outside the opponent packs the paint and getting the ball to a reliable scorer down low becomes difficult.

Let's don't forget this is a homecoming game for Nared, Russell, and Reynolds. Let's hope they get to enjoy time with family and friends while they are here.

The difference between the two is Tuck is more of a threat on the offensive in and has a much better face up game. Also Tuck has a little more leaping ability.
As far as the stats for BOTH Graves and Russell, the gameplan against our team is SUPER easy - play a zone and have at least 2 players always denying our posts. Our team doesn't pass well enough to get open shots to our guards and unfortunately the guards always (to this point except Dunbar who never gets the time of day) shoot poorly even if they do manage a shot. The defense is in a zone, so they are guaranteed to have 3 players on the glass getting the rebound.
That's one way we rack up turnovers trying to force the ball in the post and it's also why Graves and Russell have spotty and inconsistent offense because the defense is committed to making the guards beat them (which again, so far they haven't).

No comparison. Tuck is a superior player, teammate and leader. Tuck is a basketball player, she plays to her strength, she seldom disappear, she present in every game and Tuck is a very confident player.
