Boehner and House GOP getting heat from own party for not passing payroll tax.

Politics | Republicans criticize Boehner over tax fight | Seattle Times Newspaper

Boehner: "We are the party of lower taxes for the American people," he said. "We have fought for lower taxes for the 21 years that I've been in this Congress, and we're going to continue to be the party of lower taxes."

Fighting for lower taxes yet will not pass the payroll tax bill.
This fight will do nothing but help the DEMs.

LG, am I gonna get a tax refund this year?

My x-mas bonus was taxed over 30% :( :( :(

Bonus? Our leader clearly states there is a time for profits (and bonuses) now is not the time. If you were a true American like LG you would sign 100% of that check back to The government.

Boehner gave up. Will be interesting to see how the TP wing reacts.

A part of me thinks Boehner did this to show the Frosh reps how much power they really have (or don't have). They are a faction of one half of the two branches it takes to get anything done. It is possible to be right on the policy and wrong on the politics, like in this case. Gotta know how to play the game even if you want to change it for the better.

Seems to me he resented the position he was in. And the polling was ugly. Knowing the TPers had gone home, he pulled the trigger. Probably figures they won't squawk too much and especially after a few weeks have passed.

What I take away from the whole thing is that the next 10 months are going to be very acerbic and antagonistic.

Of course he didn't like the position he was in, but it was also one in which he saw an opportunity to demonstrate to the House frosh that you got to know when to hold them and know when to fold them. Allowing the president to have a small legislative victory over something that has broad bipartisan support is chicken feed compared to having a divided party headed into the election for Obama to hammer at them on. He has now got the high ground on cutting taxes and working with a disfunctional congress.

House Republican leaders agree to payroll-tax holiday extension without offsets - The Washington Post

Obama winning the payroll tax battle.
House Republican leaders said Monday that they will support extending the federal payroll tax holiday through the end of the year without demanding spending cuts to pay for it, a concession aimed at averting another politically damaging showdown in Washington. The House GOP does not want to be held responsible for the tax increase on 160 million workers that would happen if the tax holiday were not extended.

Interesting. Let the spin begin.

it's a good time to be costing businesses even more money to operate

workers will have more in their checks and that's good since goods and services will also cost more. Of course higher prices mean more tax revenue so the govt doesn't miss a beat. Funny how that always works out
