I'd like to know who these elite teams are in the SEC. Nonconference RPI is in great part tilted by who can afford the best buy games. The SEC will always have an advantage over, say, C-USA in that regard. However, if you think the SEC would do significantly better than .500 if they played C-USA in a series of neutral court games, you're sadly mistaken.
I guess it depends upon your definition of significant. The Big East didn't fare all that well against the SEC, and those were mostly played on Big East turf. Surely you aren't suggesting that C-USA would do better than the great Big East did against the SEC, are you?
Also, I await your defense of your comment about how the SEC isn't significantly better than the Valley. I find that statement ridiculous.
Your comment about nonconference RPI, however, is well taken.
So, let's use a system that adjusts for road/home wins and margins of victory...Sagarin. C-USA average is 119 vs the SEC which is 94... a 25 position spread. The SEC has 4 teams ranked higher than the highest C-USA team. That is SIGNIFICANT.
