The Pembroke Postgame Report.

1. Well the Southwest Missouri State debacle now has company. That was an utter disgrace.
2. I think Mike Hamilton was 100% out of line in making comments about a coach's job security prior to an NCAA Tournament game. It served no real purpose.
3. That said, it his comments shouldn't give the players a pass. Today's lack of effort was an embarrassment.
4. Trae Golden, Tobias Harris, and Skylar McBee showed some pride today. The rest of the roster crapped all over the legacy and sweat of the guys who built this program under Pearl.
5. The first order of business for a hypothetical new coach should be to meet with Cam Tatum. If today is the level of effort and concentration he's going to play at, it's best he find some place else to play next year.
6. Getting hammered on the boards by that Michigan team is inexcusable. Tennessee got destroyed by one of the weakest teams on the glass in the field.
7. John Beilein is simpy a fantastic basketball coach. That roster shouldn't be in the CIT, let alone winning a game in the NCAA Tournament.
8. I'm not sure what the substance of the exchange we saw the end of between Bruce Pearl and Renaldo Woolridge was. If it's what I think, Swiperboy should be walking home.
9. All in all, it's been a good six years. Today, however, showed it has undoubtedly run its course.
10. If Tennessee hasn't resolved the issue of who their basketball coach is going to be for the '11-'12 season is going to be within 10 days, heads should roll in the upper echelon of the UTAD. If they haven't been well out in front of this issue, it's professional malpractice.

Credit where credit is due: nice job hat on the write ups this season, as usual you have done a very good job and have been very objective in your post game analysis.

To the game: Trae Golden showed real flashes today and throughout the last three weeks of the season. Should be a very serviceable guard going forward. Kenny Hall has talent on the offense end, with some defense work he will be able to contribute significantly at the post next season.

Agree completely about Tatum, he is bringing nothing positive to the team at this point.

As to your last point, 10 days may be pushing it, especially if some of our targets are playing in the tournament. The decision on CBP should be made this coming week, but the search for a replacement could take significantly longer.

Sad to see this era come to an end, especially in such an unceremonious manner. I look for CBP to be very successful when he gets back into coaching, and I look for UT to struggle to rebuild under a new regime. Hopefully the right hire will be made and we can get back sooner rather than later.

I've never called for it before, but it is an absolute necessity for MH to be replaced, and quickly.

Hat...you were exactly spot-on with Pearl. He sent a message to Hamilton and everyone else about what he thought of Hamilton's opinion. He quit, the team quit, everyone quit. Pearl ought to appreciate the people that backed him even when he was unbackable. Completely classless move to the UT alumni and fanbase, he showed his true colors today. Classless and selfish.

I think Pearl told Woolridge that he would not play today because they will attempt a medical red shirt on him. Might Be wrong!

I'm still godsmacked that Tatum was allowed to play that poorly for that many minutes.

Thank you CBP for 5 wonderful years - no thanks for this year and its nobody's fault but your own. Thank you MH for not firing Fulmer 3 years earlier, making the 2nd worst hire in college football history (USC hiring away Kiffin has to be the 1st) and for saving my vacation days I use to take to enjoy a few days in Hoover watching some of the best baseball you can watch. Best of luck to the both of you.

could it be Pearl asked him if he wanted to go in and Swiper said no ? I seen it and I guess you can take what you want from it.either way he said no to what ever Pearl said.

Hat, any chance Bruce manages to save his job? I was flabbergasted by how seemingly confident he was about his future. He did not seem like a defeated man.

I'm glad Bruce went out telling Renaldo he wouldn't play. That alone can be considered a win.
Cam and Scotty could not have played any worse.
If I were coaching I would force Scotty to take at least 12 shots a game or not play him at all.
When Golden makes your stat line the world may be crumbling.

Is it possible that Hopson has a negative net influence on the team? Pearl mentioned postgame that Hopson and Harris never gelled. Hard to win when what are supposed to be your two best players aren't on the same page. With UNC and the Drew/Marshall situation, I think Drew's negative impact was underrated until he decided to leave the team, at which point, they took off behind Marshall. Chemistry is very important. Perhaps Scotty didn't like sharing the spotlight, so he elected to dog it most of the season in a "see how good you are without me" fashion.

This. In a series of bad games for Tatum that was getting progressively worse, this was the all-time low. He could and should have been pulled while we were still somewhat in the game, not that it would have made much difference, but it was blatantly obvious that he was a liability at both ends of the floor today.

Why? He's sucked for the past 25 games and still logged his usual minutes.

How can someone regress this much? His Freshman year made him look like a future All-SEC player. It's really unbelievable. He can't use the injury excuse.

That would be a stupid outlook to have. In the end, Hopson is only hurting himself.

Agreed. To the extent that I was screaming anything in the second half, it was "Where is Bone?"

I don't want to write off any players based on today, but the new coach is going to seriously have to evaluate the attitudes of Cam Tatum and Renaldo Woolridge.

Pearl knew the ax was coming---the players didn't even show up--they quit early, leading to that embarrassing rout.

That's my take. If it's accurate, I'd announce he's been permanently dismissed immediately and irrevocably.

I know we are talking about basketball and this may be apples and oranges or you may not care but this is what Tauren Poole did in the chick-fil-a bowl to our former coach and he was allowed back on. He was supported mostly by his teammates though. Not being obtuse, just a question that popped into my head when I read that. Maybe you think he should have been dismissed as well or maybe they are different since Poole had supposedly shown he should be given a chance in practice where Woolridge had not? Just wondering if we as Volnation are okay with any player doing that etc. Just your thoughts if you don't mind. And others as well.

I'm so glad that I didn't see this debacle of a game. My ultimate takeaway is that the UTAD and the NCAA should have resolved this mess by now. It serves no good purpose to let this stupid incident drag on for 12 months or more. The SEC punished pearl in the first half of the season. I don't think the UTAD should let the NCAA's punishment influence their decision. I'm also pissed at the NCAA for being so slow with sanctions--they've had the information for six months. Get on with it.

Hat how soon do you think heads roll. is the 10 days max or just a guess. Do you feel an announcement will come as early as Wednesday. I see it hitting fast.

I am so glad that I could not watch this game. This has to be one of the biggest differences in score between an 8-9 matchup in tournament history. Pathetic.
