I know you would agree that Bruce has some shortcomings Hat, but would you not also agree that generally speaking Bruce has more than handled him strategically in their matchups so far?
Cal certainly outmaneuvered him in Knoxville last year. Also, I'm not sure it takes a $2 mil plus coach to figure out holding the ball on offense and playing zone on the defensive end was the path to take tonight.

That's two games in a row:banghead2:

Vandy was the better team Tuesday, and we had no energy/hustle/effort...the officials had nothing to do with Tuesday's disaster, that was UT's fault.

I really don't think comparing Bruce's recruiting to Cal's is a fair assessment. Yes they're going to be our chief rival, but that job combined with Cal's somewhat shady connections is going to be something no one in America can match.

I know you would agree that Bruce has some shortcomings Hat, but would you not also agree that generally speaking Bruce has more than handled him strategically in their matchups so far?

So basically what I'm saying is that as long as we recruit at a high level(something Bruce is now doing), I don't think we'll see another talent disparity like the one we saw tonight. Negedu's heart problem, Tyler's stupidity, and the worthlessness of Brian Williams is a three pronged stick poking us right in the heart right now, and I doubt that's a situation we'll find ourselves in again anytime soon.

Cal may recruit well but he's not going land two top three picks every year.

Johnson, Passley, Crews, Smith, Tabb, Smith, Jurick, Woolridge, and Williams. There are 8 scholarships there that for all intents and purposes put you in a big hole.

Talent evaluation is a really big deal. You miss on a few every now and then. But you can't miss on eight of them or have them kicked off the team.

very agree with 4

am curious, couldnt 5 though hurt them in the long run if they just keep getting one and done players?

Hat, honest question, do you think Tobias Harris is just a good "prospect" or a potential lottery pick?

If they get one and dones every year, that means they always have elite talent. I fail to see how that hurts them.

well in the sense of team chemistry, unity, and experience - which is often needed to make really, deep tourney runs

also there's some recurring trend brought up last season too about teams that start freshmen (whether it be 1 or more) for major minutes don't win the championships or something.....i know i read something like that in an SI article last march

problem with Tobias is that he is a 6'8, 220 PF...not very good size for a NBA prospect, unless you have freakish athletic ability like Boris Diaw, or Josh Smith.

2. Wayne Chism made himself some money tonight. NBA people love guys who will suck it up and go play.
I really hope you're right about this one. Wayne's heart and leadership has really won me over this year. I've been checking a few mocks, but he hasn't been getting much love. Hopefully he can continue to change that.

He's not that good. That's part of the problem. He's listened to people telling him how talented he is and has convinced himself he doesn't have to go hard all the time.

That is exactly right. Too many people think the "real Scotty Hopson" (as Vitale might say) is just hiding somewhere. The fact is this is the Hopson we're stuck with.

Where do you think this team seeds with what's likely to happen down the stretch? Anything better than 8 is an improvement, but a 1 seed is certainly out of the question.

LOL yeh thanks for clearing that up. I thought we might have a chance.-jk

We could win out and not sniff a #1 ranking. We will likely be around 4-7 depending on how we finish.

I used to work with a guy from Trigg Co., KY. (Cadiz) that saw Hopson play alot at University Heights...He said he'd never amount to much at UT...Said he was soft and had attitude problems...I thought he was nuts after some of the games Hopson had last season and the way he started out this season...I'm thinking now he may have known what he was talking about....

I think our problems go back to the 2006 recruiting class. Only Chism remains from the six that came in that year. Two never saw meaningful minutes before being disposed of, two were kicked off the team after showing promise, and one more ominously left the team before this season began.

And thats why you depend on transfers, jucos and walk-ons four years down the road.

(And you look up and Kentucky has three first round picks playing a ton of minutes to lead them to victory. All in one recruiting class. Talk about bang for your buck.)

All that were going to Memphis 6 months ago!

3. On the other hand, Scotty Hopson is proving to be softer than Brandon Crump. He needs to do some serious soul searching.

4. Bruce Pearl is in an incredibly difficult situation. He is forced to play three guys who have absolutely no business being on the floor against Top 20 competition.

Scotty is getting a lot of heat for not producing up to his potential, and justifiably so. I do think the bigger problem is #4, though. Woolridge, Hall, McBee, and Pearl combined for 65 minutes and 2 points. You just can't give away that many minutes and expect to beat anybody that is any good.

I disagree with number 9. St. Louis is not there yet... They hit one lucky fadeaway prayer 3 last night and they get attention

Every coach in the A-10 has been talking them up for a month. Nobody wants to draw them in Atlantic City.

Hat is Cousins attitude going to have any adverse effect on how high he goes in the draft?

Kid has all the intangibles, but I'm sure even Cal is tired of having to constantly talk him down play after play.

I thought the same thing. Cousins obviously cares about nothing but himself; I noticed when Bledsoe was sticking the dagger in us with those two threes, Cousins wasn't cheering, clapping, or anything. All he did was sit over there and mope like a little girl.

His talent will overshadow any perceived character flaws.

I just don't see how it will not effect how high he goes.

But it's really hard to get inside some of the NBA GM's heads.
