Thoughts Upon Arriving And Taking In A Quick Snapshot Of TCOBL:

1. Tomorrow's game is generating a nice buzz. The Daily News has a nice article commenting on Temple bringing "heavyweight" opponents to Philadelphia. Nice to see Pearl' crew is held in high esteem by the basketball saavy Philly press.
2. Abner's is the city's best kept secret. If you want hype, go to Pat's or Geno's. If you want the best cheesesteak, go to the corner of 38th and Chestnut.
3. Ed Rendell may not be the best governor in America, but he is the most entertaining.
4. If Phil Fulmer thinks the fans and media have been tough on him, he should walk a mile in Andy Reid's shoes.
5. I'm an idiot for not coming up a day earlier and catching last night's epic St. Joe's-Villanova clash.
6. The Mummers Parade here in Philadelphia is in danger of being cancelled due to financial woes. The last time that happened: 1934. Just saying.
7. Phillies fans are loving Cole Hamels shredding the Mets verbally.
8. When Philadelphians look at your politicians and say "What a crook," you've got serious issues. Congratulations, Illinois.
9. Penn's campus is one of the more interesting in America. Ivy League school right in the middle of a major urban area.
10. Bruce needs to schedule a game in the Palestra.

every single person with the even just the slightest bit of interest in college basketball needs to make it to the Palestra. It beats any basketball venue I've ever been to.

i agree that Pat's and Geno's are over hyped, but the best cheesesteak is located at Tony Luke's.

The A-10 is considering moving their conference tournament back to the Palestra. If they do, I'll do my best to be there every time.

Went to Pats on families visit/vacation to see my Uncle who was a Penn grad in Philly in 76'. Can still remember the taste and smell. Sure its changed in 30 years too. Thanks for that blast from the past Hat.

I remember growing up and going to the parade just to see the Mummers. That's depressing.

Another observation: I'm not sure any city does a better job of finding hot women to be TV news anchors than Philadelphia.

Penn is a tight med research school. Uncle got his doctorite there and retired from UN as a professor in microbiology.

Thanks for the update. I was hoping that dad's work schedule would have him at the office in Philly this weekend and I could join him, but no such luck. Have fun and represent us proudly!

Columbia is similarly situated, but every time I've been there I felt separated from the surrounding neighborhood. That's certainly not the case at Penn.

Columbia is straight up in the middle of an urban area.

Agreed on both counts. Wharton has a very hoodish feel. Columbia just feels like an urban campus.

7. Putz in the 8th. K-Rod in the 9th. The Mets bullpen isn't going to hand Philly the playoffs next year.

9. Penn's campus is beautiful.

If the Mets are counting on Putz, they can plan vacations in mid October again.

I hope that your MLB knowledge is < than your NCAA knowledge.

I think Putz will be great for the Mets.
