The Politics of Debt

Because there are only a few true blue fiscal conservatives in DC. All others are two faced frauds. The only thing they are concerned with conserving is their power as a politician.

Real fiscal conservatives in DC are as rare as the Dodo bird.

Let's put the facts out there why don't we.

Clinton fought Newt tooth and nail on spending then realized he liked being POTUS more than he wanted to win that battle. Newt gets as much credit as Clinton does for the reduction because if the Dems would have kept control over congress there wouldn't have been one.

Obama benefited from budget sequestration.
Obama's best year was 2015 when we only went $438 billion more in the hole. Clinton got his "surplus" by creative accounting. This problem isn't fixable without cuts to Medicare, Social Security, and the military. And, even then, it would take many years to crawl out of the hole that they have dug for us.

OK so Newt gets most of the credit for Clinton leaving office with a surplus. Which republican gets credit for Obama leaving office having reduced the deficit after the worst recession in generations?

The ones that forced sequestration.

The debt still increased every year under Obama. In Obama's best year of 2015, we still spent $438 billion more than we took in. Obama's deficits increased to over $600 billion a year in his last 2 years. Like previously mentioned, nobody has the guts to make the necessary cuts. No Republican and no Democrat. It is unfixable, given the current situation.

Lets get ahead of the next one, who’s fault will it be when Trump takes Obama’s economy into the tank?
Does Obama's economy exist in perpetuity? At what point is the official transition from one president's economy to the successor's economy?

No. I would think 4 or 5 years however we are already starting to see damage done to the middle class with Trumps corporate and mega rich tax cuts

4 or 5 years is a reasonable standard. However, there is legislation which doesn't come to full impact for a decade or longer.

I suspect every "damage done" opinion can be offset by "gains made" when looking at different criteria.

Serious question. How, in your opinion, are one demographic of persons damaged when another demographic of persons pay less in taxes?

Because it makes some people richer. That has to sting when you are struggling to buy beer, cigarettes, lottery tickets, and tattoos.

Really? Damage to the middle class? I'm middle class and doing better than at any time during Obama's reign.

yes 90% of Americans want to see tougher background checks and that bill has been sitting on McConnell’s desk for months. The senate is neutered to the point they won’t go on record

Because it's nothing but smoke and mirrors.
