I don't think it's been denied and the fraternity has issued a statement about it which basically suggests it happened.

I'm just surprised at the reaction. Make the kid take sensitivity classes, do some community service, etc. It's a university -- teach him, help him learn.

Expulsion is just insane IMHO and antithetical to a university's mission.

plenty of people at UA took more than that to attend. Is it right? No but he should realize ignorance exists everywhere and move on. Maybe a beer summit would help

if that's the case, then half the student body in most college should be expelled based on they've said about Bush and any conservative speaker.

if a black dude says it to another black dude, should they expelled too?

I wonder if he gets this bent out of shape when listening to rap music or watching a movie with the same slur?

I'm not going to hate on the guy for being offended.

I do think he needs to step back and think though.

In an interview, he claimed if he was in school in California, DC or the East the offender would have already been gone. I don't know about that and if true that's pretty troubling.

They are words. Sheeeesh.

I have no problem with him being offended, I would be as well, but the proposed punishment by him doesnt fit the "crime". If we are going to codemn the word, it should be across the board and not just limited to one race. I assume he has used this word before himself.

they'd probably be suspended, but i bet for legal issues wouldn't be expelled.

i wonder if the guy was provoked or drunk.

why would a guy just randomly start yelling racial slurs at some guy just walking by? I wonder if there is more to the story.

From what I know about Delta Tau Deltas on UA's campus, this is not the least bit surprising. They have a history of doing stuff. Whatever happened to the sticks and stones crap we were taught in elementary school?

Not a chance that there is more to the story, what are you high? There isnt a doubt in my mind that this fine upstanding kid was just walking and minding his own business til these mean ole' rednecks verbally attacked him.

I dont think they have a history of anything in the realm of this do they? They are just a group of regular ole idiots, my brother was one 2000-2007 (he wasnt the brightest, hence the 7 years).

My guesses in order of likelihood -

1. Drunk
2. A pledge who a brother told to do it
3. Provoked

I know nothing about DTD at Bama though.

Did he go to UA? Fraternities are completely different depending on the campus you are on. I know guys in our fraternity did stupid crap, but when I was down in UAT for a leadership conference in HS I went to a DTD party at UA and almost saw a black on white brawl cause some stupid shiz was running his mouth to a black guy.

i'm sure the truth will come out next year right before the bama-auburn game, buried in section 12Q

So your saying that the offended kid did or said something to get called this?

If I were the offended kid I would have flipped him off and kept walking!! The word doesn't bother me, you call me that all day long but if you put your hands on me it's on like neck bones!!

Should the kid yelling the word be kicked out of school? No but next person might bust him in the mouth!! Different people handle situations differently

if the black guy were to have punched him and walk away. there would have been no mention of it because the white guy wouldn't have done anything except maybe learn a lesson.
