Tennessee Coach Phillip Fulmer is expected to announce later this afternoon that Randy Sanders will step down as the Vols' offensive coordinator, although Sanders will stay on staff for the remainder of the season as quarterbacks coach.Advertisement

Fulmer will take over the play-calling duties and offensive coordinator responsibilities for the rest of the seson. Fulmer and Sanders have had ongoing discussions about this change for the last two days.

After Saturday's 16-15 loss to South Carolina, the Vols are ranked 108th nationally out of 117 Division I-A programs for scoring offense. The South Carolina loss marked the first time in the Phillip Fulmer era that the Vols have lost three straight games.

WVLT: Sanders resigned but will finish out the season.

Fulmers quotes.

Its been a difficult season for everyone. The results are any one person's fault. Randy is a true Volunteer, an outstanding coach, and a great friend. We are a few plays away from having a great season. Randy has  unselfishly asked to step down at the end of the year. I am sad that it has come to this. The playcalling duties will be shared by the offensive staff.

RS: Im gonna miss this place. But there is a whole lot more to life than Tennessee football.

Things are out of kilter. Its not all my fault. But its my ship.
