The Real Difference Next Season

Might be true, but, there is a long history on VN of the new strength coach always being better than the last and we see how Wylie worked out.

True, but eventually we'll get a good one, and he might be the guy. Plus, I don't know if we've had the same one two years in a row, that's beneficial.

If we don't count Ausmus, VN is probably right. Lawson> McKefeery(who was handcuffed)> Wylie. I think Ausmus is about the same as Lawson.

I think the fact that our S&C coach has been with this staff for 7 seasons now and his philosophy matches up well, is going to pay dividends.

But at the time of the hire, Wylie was hailed as the second coming of Charles Atlas. And his being hired away was further proof of his awesomeness.

Point being that the prospective analysis is often wildly inaccurate.

Good observation and I hope that you are right, but now he is going up against the competition from bama, UF, LSU, AUB, etc which is much tougher than where he has been.

True, but he's also going to have better natural athletes to develop.

We need consistency. This will be the first season since 2006(?) that the entire staff will be intact for consecutive seasons. Hopefully, this will pay noticeable dividends next year.

As long as this SC doesn't allow the players to not lift for THREE MONTHS like last year (according to Butch yesterday), we should see a huge improvement.

Lol did Dooley not let them lift during season? I didn't hear that one.

Before we start to rant about how well the vols will do in 2014, we need to keep in mind what players we have to work with. We have to have a min. of 55 SEC caliber players. Breaking down to 22 on offense 22 on defense 11 special players for kickoff and punting ,field goal, etc. So with that in mind can you identify the SEC players on the current squad?

Butch Jones on Team 116: "Our football team, last year, didn't lift for over three months."

Apparently. Unreal that this happened. I wish TN could go after Dooley and have him repay, or not have to pay his buyout since he was obviously negligent.

Stability is number 1. Too much change , attrition and turnover. We need it to be quiet on those fronts for a while.

I'm just glad that his reputation as a "coach" is being thoroughly destroyed after te malpractice that occurred during his tenure. The more we learn, the more clear it is that Dooley was a name and that's it.

The real difference next season is the following:
1. STABILITY in coaches!
2. Players buy into CBJ's coaching!
3. Hopefully good recruiting class.
4. Schedule will not be as tough as this year (still a challenge).

Challenges are:
1. Keeping the positive momentum going with the new commits. The mental part of this game is HUDGE!
2. Obviously coaching the players!
3. Keeping the support of the fan base!
4. Getting people to realize just how BAD of a shape the program was before CBJ came here meaning it is not going to be turned around for a few years!

Distractions:
1. Players making poor life decisions.
2. Negative comments from the fan base! Constructive criticism is OK but just to put down players and coaches distracts from what the coaching staff is trying to build. Believe me, players and recruits read, and unfortunately believe, some of the ignorant comments made on this site.

Bottom line, there is a lot of work to do but it appears we are on the right track if the fan base will give this staff some time! I will support CBJ until I have a concrete reason not to because I am a VFL! Thanks for reading my "soap box" thoughts about OUR PROGRAM!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

I have seen a significant upgrade in strength and endurance especially in the second half.
Lawson is an upgrade.

Back to the OP - I agree. I have nothing but good things to say about Lawson. He got the current roster in shape and a lot of fat replaced with muscle in a relatively short period of time.

The problem has been they can't spin that they are going to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear when it comes to most of the upper classmen on this roster. What is even sadder it that those players trusted UT to provide what they needed to become good SEC quality players and did not receive it. So the issues originated from Kiffin, Dools, Hamilton, Hart (who had the opportunity to end it after the UK loss), Cheek, DiPietro, the BOT, and the big boosters. I hope a big time lesson was learned and is never repeated.

It will take all of this year going into next to reprogram the existing guys on the roster other than the 2013 recruiting class. So by 2015 we should see a totally different brand of football. At that point we should know if this staff is going to be able to get it done. Continuity, S&C, and the coaching staff getting better along with the players they coach will go a long way to making that happen.

I agree with just about everything you said with one small difference. I think 99% of our CURRENT problems go back to HAMILTON with some responsibility on Cheek! I've said it before and I will say it again, HAMMY SET OUR SPORTS PROGRAM BACK ABOUT TEN YEARS! He made poor coaching decisions AND he did his best to alienate the majority of the fan base who make less than $30,000 a year. At this point, I really don't see how you can blame Hart! Time will tell, but to me the jury is still out on Hart! Good post, THANKS!

It's never a good sign whe fans are counting on the strength coach to be the difference.

Give me a difference makingJuco QB, like Wallace at Ole Miss, or something like that.

With 28 seniors leaving, plus juniors leaving early, how much better can we be?
