The Real Problem Behind the Meltdown

Michigan and Ohio State, yes. Penn State is still only a glorified Indiana until they actually beat someone, and that doesn't include SMU and Boise St., the two teams they "drew" in their free ride to the final four in this ridiculous bracket.
I agree that the Big Ten's 2 premier teams are OSU and Michigan and possibly PSU from time to time. The conference is riding OSU and Michigan's success. Those are the only two schools to win Playoff championships since it began in 2014 with OSU in the mix almost every year. Michigan seems to come and go.

But the one that a few are now watching is USC. If they get rid of dipshit Lincoln Riley and get a real coach that can play defense, watch out. Oregon and possibly Washington (rebuilding this year after losing everybody) could also be a factor.

My point - that is no Mickey-Mouse conference and can play with anyone. They have many of the biggest alumni bases and like mentioned earlier, are gobbling up the HUGE TV markets which translates to money, big money in the next few years for all of their member. Plus they're 95-88 all time against the SEC (from the Iowa board)

As NIL goes, Michigan is gearing up to have $50M / yr starting next year. Spyre reportedly has about $40M.

Larry Ellison is behind Michigan and he's worth $240 Billion, give or take a billion or ten. He's also the new primary stockholder of Paramount (read: CBS) who with Fox and NBC has a big media deal with the B1G.

Mr Ellison has an interest in B1G football being good so CBS B1G broadcasts are good and he has enough money to boost the NIL to ridiculous levels at MI or even to boost several B1G teams, if he wishes.

It'll get messy quickly if Ellison sees a return on investment at CBS after boosting MI. A guy that rich in the mix and thinking about how to make his new media business more profitable is scary.

Maybe he'll get bored and just buy the Lions or Tigers or Bears, oh my!

Ohio state has the best roster on paper. Their payroll is about $22 million vs. TN’ $14 million. Ohio state has better players/ simply put. Their only deficiency is the oline, which looked good vs. TN. Of course, they out schemed us by pulling guards, misdirection and pre-snap motion causing much confusion for TN defense and coaches.

It's almost cultural now at Tennessee. We almost never adjust, and we get outcoached MUCH more often that we outcoach someone. Especially in big games. And that applies across rosters and coaches. In fact, on the occasions where we DO out-scheme or outcoach someone, it is so unusual and amazing that we are collectively shocked.

And, as I said, this isn't a Heupel issue. It's a Tennessee issue. Darnedest thing ever.

Not just Michigan. Oregon has unlimited funding from Phil Knight - NIKE and I read that OSU has $60 million for NIL if needed next year. Have you seen what OSU has pulled in from the Portal in the last 3 to 4 days.

It's going to kill CF - just a matter of time

USC has been a second (or third) tier program since Carroll left - it was Riley who was supposed to bring them back to the top, and he couldn't even get it done with the #1 draft pick. Washington had their moment and will sink back into mediocrity. Penn State is a perennially second tier program and always will be.

The Big 10 is OSU and Oregon, and then the rest. Until I see that big money translate into on the field success anywhere else in the conference, it will be that way. But because of how bad most of the league is, you'll get your Indiana type teams every year that goes 11-1, 10-2 for the national media to hype and get into this idiotic playoff.

More parity was fun with the start of NIL but like the old system of paying players, some schools are willing to push it beyond the limits for most schools.

As for Knight, he's nowhere near as wealthy as Ellison but they both have business interests which dovetail nicely with college football being popular.

Unlike a lot of NIL donors, college athletics having a high profile and high quality can actually help their businesses. Those are the kinds of ultra-wealthy donors who will stay interested in funding NIL. We should try to find one or two.

OK. I'll say it here and probably get roasted for it,

Too many SEC fans are delusional and not keeping up with what's been happening the last 2 to 3 years in CF - including many on this board

First, it comes down to $$$$ - like it or not - and that translates to TV money and eyeballs. Have you noticed what the Big Ten is doing as of late? They're after - and getting - huge TV markets.... New York City, Philly, Wash DC, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland and on and on and I know I've missed a few. All are markets over 2.5 million people. That translates to around 51 to 52 % of the CF TV markets-eyeballs in the country. I think I've read that the SEC controls 35 to 37%. Like it or not, the Big Ten is here to stay.

Don't think so? Michigan and Washington - both current Big Ten members - Played for NC last year with Michigan winning it. And many so-called experts think this year's winner will come out of the Oregon - OSU game - both being Big Ten powerhouses.....and they could end up playing Penn State in the final. In fact, OSU could have 16 to 18 players drafted in the next NFL draft which would break Georgia's record of 15 a few years ago.

With that said, is the SEC still the top CF conference. Yes, probably, but not by much as it used to be. It's minimal now - if at all. I'm just tired of listening to many Vol fans bitch and complain about what happened on Saturday night. We got obviously beat by a better team but I know a few Vol fans that just thought that we were going to go up to Columbus and slap the hell out of them.....you know, SEC, SEC, SEC. Wake up people (Some of you anyways).
When someone starts a thread under 100 posts, First thing comes up is Troll and then I see word fluke, I heard no one say fluke. My guess you are either a UT hater, Ohio State fan or a local that is B1G fan or just hates SEC.

No, I'm a lifelong Tenn fan - supporter that is just totally POd about the complete meltdown I had to watch on Saturday and I have a few UT fans - friends right there with me. I grew up around 2 miles from the stadium. That was a disgrace on Saturday

Let's see. Top to bottom yes the SEC is still better. Indiana made the CPF and Vanderbilt might could beat them..The new NIL and expanded playoff may draw the two conferences closer. Look at the recruiting rankings though for further proof..
I have no clue of this answer but it todays world this is all that matters...In light of op which conference is making the most money ...

I cant help but see

North vs South coming back around again ..
You know what they say history repeats itself .

I've had this name for a while. Mostly just a reader. Go back and look at how long I've been on the board - almost 3 years. Plus, I don't answer to you. Do you own this board?

If you haven't noticed, there are a ton of POd fans besides me
