The Realist Thread

UT players will suit up and give their all for TN. The coaches will prepare the players to the best of their ability and give them the opportunity to execute their gameplan. If anyone hopes for more than that then they will certainly have the opportunity to be dissapointed. If the players and coaches giving their all week in and week out is enough for you then it is going to be a great season no matter what the W-L record is at the end of November.

That being said... I want to win so very badly. Go VOLS. VOLNATION has your back.

Realistically, we're going to have to fight hard for 6 wins, and it will likely come down to the season finale. Best case is that we're 4-5 coming out of the South Carolina game. Worst case we're 3-6 with three to play.

5 losses between Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, Bama, and South Carolina seems pessimistic to me.

Bama and OU are definite losses and I don't trust us to beat Florida. I don't see us taking 2/3 from UGA, Ole Miss, and USC, especially when they're all away.

So in my mind, realistically, we'll be fortunate to have 1 win out of this group. If we get two we're ahead of where we should be. Just my $0.02.

A pessimist says there is no way that Butch has been in charge long enough to turn the program around enough to win one more game than last season (6) with all that youth and inexperience. They lost an NFL quality line. No proven QB. Best RB graduated. Etc. Etc.

The optimist says many of those players that had 4 losing seasons in a row are gone. Butch is in his second season so the players will know the system better. They say the SEC is probably going to be down this season and many of our opponents are breaking in new QBs. Besides that, we would have beat Vandy with ease if Worley had started.

The realist says - whatever. Nothing is ever as bad as it seems or as good as it seems. If Butch is worth $3+ mill a year he is going to give us a bowl game. That means 6 or 7 wins.

The hardcore eternal optimist says, 15-0 with an NC. Boom, baby!!!

The pessimist in me says that with a bunch of freshmen starting at key positions, we will not be in a good position to pull the upsets or win the close games. Also, with us playing 7 teams that are in the top # 25, "O Bama" "Okla-homo" UGA, Florida, Missouri, Ole Piss & South Carolina, our schedule is not in our favor to pull off that 6th win.

The optimist in me says that we will play some on our schedule after they are banged up or after they have lost key players to major injuries for the season.

Realistic? Ok, we are better this year than last, but not as good as we are going to be next year. Then...........we dominate the world from 2016 on! Butch is named ruler of the free world, and we finally achive my dream of living in a world where a chicken can cross the road without having his motives questioned.

What does the realist thread think our record is this year?

The whole atmosphere for UT football has changed. We have enough older players and the right amount of new players to get the turnaround started this year. Our bad luck is starting to change to good luck. Realistically we can look for an 8-4 season with a 9th win in our bowl game this year. With some special good luck and a team or two overlooking us we could get 9 regular season wins and a 10th win in the bowl game.
Vol fans will be celebrating in the streets and our opponents will be burning mattresses in the streets!
Go Vols! GBO!

Her is the realism.First,we field a team that is faster, stronger, quicker, and, hopefully meaner.Second, last year, our Vols did not look lost(just outflanked and less speed),and they never gave up as opposed to 2012.Third,this year's recruits are level headed and secure in the thought that they are the ones to help bring Tennessee back to glory days.
After this, the hope is 6-9 wins.dreams work with realism to make great results.
