The reality of next year

Wrong again? That was only once. The OL will be improved next year. Seeing as how they are one of the best groups in the country, that will be the strength of our offense. I believe you are underestimating what a great OL can do.

I believe Thomas and Gooch are the only ones leaving next year. I don't think Gooch is even in the 2-deep.

We have a great OL and #2 offense in the conference. How is our record looking to you? Next year our schedule is even harder.

Agreed so again which Big Fish coach that this fan base keeps dreamimg about will take this job?

Why do you keep thinking this is a bad job that nobody would take? I could see a coach like Gruden or Patterson taking this job, if we offered him enough money. We just completed a huge new facility, we play in arguably the toughest division in the country. Knoxville is a good city. We have outstanding facilities to work with, we have a massive fan base that loves its team. We have a good amount of talent and depth. We have several future NFL players on our roster right now.

The only drawback to our school is that a coach better have confidence in himself, because if he doesn't know how to win and win quick, he isn't going to be here long. That's why many shy away from this job, is because of the pressure we put on our coach to win. So we gotta have a guy who is going to work 24/7 to win, and who knows how to do it.

Hopefully, Gruden is that guy. But if not, we throw money at a guy who just knows how to win. Not a guy who went 13-17 or whatever Dooley was.

Please see my first post. Offense isn't the problem. Defense is clearly the problem.

Our record is a reflection of our coach's incompetence.

Change the coaching staff, especially the DC, and UT will be much improved next year.

What makes UT's situation any worse than UK, Auburn or Arkansas?

Because we're Vol fans.

We are worse off than UK, because it's just the status quo at UK to suck in football. Most of their fan base only cares about the basketball program.

UT doesn't need a big fish hire. However they might want to get a leg up on the other SEC schools looking to fill head coaching vacancies at season's end.

Listen I am a alumni, donor and a VFL, i don't disagree with what you say. But remember we wear orange cooled glasses. Coaching is a business not a cheerleading event.

Coaching is the problem. Even our offense struggles against top tier SEC games.

What makes UT's situation any worse than UK, Auburn or Arkansas?

The fact that Tennessee fans don't care about their given situations?

The only thing the more intelligent portion of the fan base worry about is this university's A.D. and President sitting on the fence this season and doing nothing. Then allowing those 3 schools to hire the best HC's that are available while Tennessee simply falls that much more behind in S.E.C. relevance.

Yep that was my response to you. We need to hire a proven winner. Petersen, Strong, Patterson......someone that simply has shown they just know how to win and have a proven system and formula how to get there.

Gotcha...we were posting responses at the same time.

We had a more rich pride, tradition, we are supposed to be a power house in football.

Which is why Hart should cut bait with Dooley now, and name an interim coach for the rest of the season. Put the full court press on top candidates like Strong and Peterson before AU and Arkansas can.

Dooley's lost the fan base, and recruiting has been well below UT standards.

Auburn , under Coaches Shug Jordan, Pat Dye, Terry Bowden, and Tommy Tuberville has had a long history of relevance. Arkansas was a strong program for years under Frank Broyles. Kentucky has been pretty much non-existent, with a couple of exceptions, since Bear Bryant left to go to Texas A&M in the 50's.

I'm sorry but our recruiting has become a joke this year. Bell will be at OSU. North, Green, Truman, etc will look else were. We are screwed under this coaching staff. Dooley is a lame duck and Sal is history. No recruits want to come here especially on defense. Look at the the offers we have made recently! Half those guys don't even have a offer from a school even close to relevant... We have fallen so low that we are now wanting to take DE from high school and make them TE... We take on players with offers from MTSU etc. Its awful and it won't get it done in the SEC!

For those that think the NFL want be interested in our big three look at these stats and tell me which NFL GM would not go after our big three?
Checking On The Vols In The NCAA Stats - Tennessee

You know how people say stats don't lie, well I'm hear to tell you they do. Against Troy, NC St, and lower level teams Bray, Hunter, and CO light it up, but how'd they do against FL or Bama. Now, I don't want to hear that no one does good against those teams etc. If your first round material you find ways to get it done. CP is the only one even deserving of a first round selection and even he needs to really work on his route running.

Here is the question. Imagine what our team will look like next year if Bray, CP, Hunter leaves? Now add the fact that ZR and Rivera are grads, now add our defense players that will be here. Let that soak in.....
Now ask yourself this. Which coach worth anything will stake their future on this suicide mission?

I made a similar point in another thread and I was told this was irrelevant. The only way to make it a relevant point was to compare it to who everyone else was losing, who we were recruiting, etc.

Truthfully, I'm still with you. I don't really care who we are getting and who we are losing...it still won't make us relevant in the SEC.

There's just simply no way that Hart looks at the whole situation and decides to bring Dooley back. I'm not one to talk about how bad Recruiting is with 3 months left because it's not done until it's done, but any intelligent person can see that were falling behind on the prospects we have on the table. I don't blame them either. What top recruit would choose this situation over much better options. This is a great school, a great place to go to college, and a great place to play football but we have to a good coach with some semblance of stability.
