The Clemson victory over Georgia and the Miami win over Florida are two big wins for ACC teams over SEC powerhouses. UGA then came back and beat USCe pretty easily at home, which lends credence Clemson being good. I will note that I think UGA would have beat Clemson had Gurley and Marshall not got banged up early and had Mitchell not gotten injured for the year, but injuries are part of football. Also, UF dominated Miami but shot itself in the foot with the multiple turnovers and taking care of the ball is also part of football. That said, both Clemson and Miami won and Florida State pummeling Pitt with Winston poised to be a star, it looks like the ACC may finally be fulfilling the dream of the ACC founders when they tried to become a football conference. I think Florida State and Clemson are legit national title contenders, in part, because the ACC (outside of FSU, Clemson, and Miami) is weak and, in part, because they both are really good. I won't be surprised if either Clemson or FSU plays in the BCS national title game this year. Of course, both teams have a history of losing games they should not and it is early in the season.

Texas got humiliated by BYU and USC lost 10-7 to Washington State. It's pretty stunning because BYU just lost to UVA, which got blown out by Oregon this week, and Washington State has been horrible for years. Suffice it to say, I think Mack Brown and Kiffin's days are numbered. Brown will likely announce his retirement after another loss to Oklahoma and Kiffin may get fired as soon as the year is over in order to give the next coach some time on the recruiting trail. So, the question becomes who does Texas and USC try to get to be the new HC? There have been some rumors that Texas will put together an absurd offer for Saban. Texas, with its own channel, may actually be the one team in the country that could pay $7M+ without blinking an eye. I don't know if Saban will be interested, but he seems to be growingly concerned with the quality of the SEC and he may want a change of scenery. Could Texas also make a successful run at Gruden? Who are the other potential candidates? Similarly, USCw will command the attention of most of the big name candidates in the country. While not a huge name, I could see James Franklin being offered the USCw job after making Vandy somewhat decent and I am nearly positive that he would take it if it were offered. Who are the other USCw candidates? I doubt they would bring Sarkisian back since the Kiffin experiment seems to have been a horrible choice for USCw. Could Wilcox be a candidate?

The SEC, I think, remains the premiere conference in the country even with the improvement of the ACC and, to a lesser extent, Michigan and Ohio State. Still, this year does not feel like the SEC is as far ahead of the pack as we have been in years past and it could be a sign of things to come. The entire SEC relies on recruiting the state of Florida and, if Miami begins to get traction, it will be harder to recruit down there. Heck, Miami's class this year is already really good. Also, Florida State and Clemson already recruit Georgia with ferocity and it could be worse. And, I wonder if the Texas and/or USCw potential openings will impact the SEC coaching ranks as stated above.

Clemson, FSU, and Miami have always had good teams. They have very week schedules though with the exception of 2-3 games. Could they survive the weekly grind of the SEC? Hard to say. Each of those teams always beat someone try shouldn't and lose to some they shouldn't.

The ACC has 3 pretty good teams. The SEC has 6-8 really good teams every year.

ACC will always be a basketball conference.

Texas may struggle more since A&M joined the SEC. Hard to compete with a conference with so many nation titles.

I believe Texas will target Saban, Muschamp and Patterson in that order.

No chance Saban leaves for Texas, muschamp sucks, and Patterson would consider it a slap in the face to TCU if he left for texas. Chris Peterson and bronco mendenhall should be the top two choices.

Still think Peterson doesn't want to go anywhere...not sure why people continue to / insist on throwing his name out there

Because he's only been offered the UCLA, Stanford, and Washington jobs. Texas is in a completely different class.

Before we go buying in to the notion that the ACC is "back," let's see how the season plays out. FSU beat a crap Pitt team and Miami was given the game by Driskel. The Clemson win close and at home.

All these teams seem entirely capable of blowing games against the likes of Maryland and Wake Forest.

And he nearly accepted the UCLA job last year. I think he realizes he's done just about everything at Boise that he can do.

There is always a chance when discussing Saban. He is as loyal as a drugged up hooker.

Muschamp may not be great but is a good defensive coach and was coveted by Texas boosters.

Texas could double Patterson's pay. Doubt he cares about slapping anyone in face.

I can honestly see Texas going the NFL route to get their next coach. Saban has never had it better at Alabama and Texas, at this point, would be a move down for him. Muschamp just played in a BCS bowl and can have a top 10 recruiting class in his sleep at UF, so the Texas job would really just be a lateral move. It would have to be some serious cash to get him to leave UF. And what would Texas be getting? You don't know if Muschamp can win championships so a huge payday would be risky. Patterson would make more sense eventhough he has a pretty decent job at TCU without the expectations that would be placed on him at Texas.

USC is kind of in the same position, but would have a better chance of landing a higher tier coach due to their location and tradition. I could see Saban taking the opportunity ($$$$) to coach at one of the most storied programs in all of college football. He's pretty much accomplished everything he can at Alabama.

Gruden was wise to pass on UT. Let's face it Texas and USC are much, much better jobs at the moment where the opportunity to win now is very apparent. Lots of options out there if he isn't dead set on coaching in the NFL again.

The big money Alums and backers of Texas could match and exceed anything Alabama would offer Saban if Texas wanted Him.

To Op need to do research on Saban's deal with Alabama.....he is not going anywhere......USC and Franklin will not happen if rumors are true about Franklin ....the Acc is a fluke and will be exposed eventually.....after this season Fl will be wanting tr rid themselves of Muschamp.....

based on what, exactly?

I'm not sure what he's referring to. But all you need to do is look at how much Saban is currently making, compare it to head coaching salaries in college and the NFL, and you'll understand why Saban isn't going anywhere.

Clemson's Dabo Swinney would be a good replacement for Muschamp at Florida.
