Great job ladies!! I went to the game on Friday because I was in town, and watched the other two on TV, and it hurt to lose those games especially at home, but this team has the it factor. They are going to be good! Gonna be a lot of fun to watch them over the next few years!

This years team did a marvelous job of winning a lot more games that they shouldn't have. The future is very bright with another pitcher coming in and if we can upgrade at a couple of positions we will be top five in the nation.
I expect we will see huge improvement out of some of the freshmen next season. This season way above expectations tremendous job by the players and coaches.

the defense has to improve for sure, they looked good at times and then looked like crap at times

another pitcher is a must

but they are a young team too, that has to be figured in also,i do have faith in the Weeklys, they will get back into the championship games

They also need real and consistant production from batters 5-8.The last 1/3 of the season they hit approx. .200 and that is why they are sitting at home

Agreed and Ralph and Karen know that...look for Leach to swing more away and not always try to slap

Maybe we'll see Holcomb and Leach change positions in the lineup next year, with Leach hitting away more from the 2 hole. The thing is, Holcomb hasn't show the propensity to walk as much as Leach does, for whatever reasons--but Holcomb is in many ways an ideal leadoff hitter--as, of course, is Leach.

We really need Seggern, Weimer and Rowland to come on as hitters. I think they all have potential. Seggern faded as the year went on but she's got a good stroke and is likely to be in the 5 or 6 spot. We're desperate for a good middle of the lineup /right hand/ hitter, and I think Weimer has a chance to establish herself as our designated hitter. The only other possibilities are Lockman and McSwain. Lockman is a good catcher, and I have to think will be a regular in the lineup at that position. She improved some this year as a hitter, but is still a considerable distance away from being a dependable/productive hitter. I think McSwain will have to show early that she can make good contact more consistently--and by good contact I don't mean the high popups that her her stock in trade--or she could spend a lot of time on the bench. It appears that Rowland and Bearden will battle for the first base job. With a year under her belt, Rowland can be better next year--needs to be better for us to have a better hitting team. Bearden did some nice things in spot duty this year. Can she do more? Can she drive the ball or hit for power? I don't know--didn't see any power from her this year. She is a big girl and doesn't look fully fit to me. Maybe I'm wrong, but you want someone with her height and build to be as lean and fit as they can possibly be.

Actually, now that I think about it: we maybe have a bit of problem next year. We need someone to play right field. If Weimer were to be the designated player, then that would mean that Vines would play first--meaning neither Rowland, nor Bearden nor incoming freshman Morgan can play first. Not ideal. Maybe Vines can play the outfield. Not sure. Not sure about Weimer out there, either. Maybe incoming freshman Ayala will claim the RF position--but she herself will be adjusting to SEC pitching. We've got a potential log jam at first base and not a lot of potential players for right field. That is what it comes down to. I don't know it for a fact, but I'll bet Ayala and Morgan are left-hand hitters, which means that we've got a very unbalanced lineup. Too many lefties.

Not if Morgan beats her out!

Look for Batts and Ayala or one of the freshman from this past season to battle it out for RF

an outstanding prospect, and has a chance to play a lot. Where, is the question. I didn't know that she was a catcher. She's left-handed--and has been mainly a pitcher, hasn't she? I'm not sure i've ever seen a left-handed catcher. Morgan is left-handed hitter--and the more good hitters, the better--but we've got a serious need for a good right-hand hitter. It was a weakness two years ago and this past year.

Maybe Batts or Ayala will grab an outfield spot--but we need a genuine hitter in the 6-8 holes. Is Batts another speedy/slapper type? We had bad power numbers last year--our lowest home run total in a years.

Yes she pitched in high school but club ball she is a catcher...she is coming to UT to catch and play first base...batts is like leach can either slap or hit away and is also left handed hitter

I would actually prefer them to try and convert Huffstetler to 1B

as far as catcher none of the 3 there has shown the arm to play that position.

use McSwain against teams and pitchers she has had success with but she is not an everyday player. Her BA has decreased each year from .294 as a Freshman to .253 as a Soph to .240 as a Junior.

The reality is both Lockman and Rowland need to step up big time at the plate for UT to have the success they want next year.

Righties next year

Scarlet McSwain LF
Savannah Huffstetler 2B
Katie Weimer C/1B
Abby Lockman C/1B

Amanda Ayala could very well take over RF and be the lead off hitter. Moving Leach, Holcomb, Gregg and Vines to the 2,3,4 and 5 slots and Seggern to 6 with McClain at 9

Our roster does seem to have gotten lop-sided towards lefties. Not sure how much this means but it's interesting to note that OK has 200 RBI this year from right handers - Florida 143 RBI from righties and UT 88.:eek:hmy:

I think Leach will stay in the leadoff spot. She is one of the best leadoff hitters in the country because she is great on getting on base. She led the SEC in runs score--that is a big-deal stat. Holcomb could easily lead off--she's got most of Leach's qualities--but I doubt she'd get on base as often as Leach or score as many runs. I'll take our 1-4 over just about any group in the country. After that I think Seggern will be fine in either the 5/6 spot. We would have had an outstanding top 5 this year had Geer hit. Her terrible second half really hurt us.

Next year Ayala or Morgan could grab a spot but they'll have to prove it early on--and it is not an easy adjustment to SEC pitching. It's up to Rowland, Lockman, Weimer and Bearden to take it up a notch next year, for starters. That group lacks the athleticism that you really want in all your players and, hence, it limits where they can play. Rowland and Bearden can only play first or be DH. I'm not sure Weimer or Morgan can play outfield. You need people who can run in the outfield, so you're defense is solid, but then they also need to hit, too. We're probably going to see a lot of platooning in the 6-8 spots next year, as we saw this year.
