The Scotty Hopson thread (merged)

Interesting stat on Scotty...for the season, including tonight. Assists-13, Turnovers-31 He's a junior and should be taking better care of the ball than that. If he's not getting looks, somebody is.
Tonight I was even more bothered by the fact that he only shot five times. He can't just run and hide when the shots saren't falling. This team needs leadership. I know that everyone says it falls on him to provide it, but he has a track record of either lighting it up or shutting down.

I wonder why Scotty flashed up top then ran away from the inbounds pass on the final play... Surely that's not how that was supposed to be ran. Is he afraid to take the big shot??

Pearl's comments seemed to indicate that Hopson's move was designed to draw a defender away from Harris so the could get the ball at the top of the key. I didn't see it though.

Pearl- "We brought Brian (Williams) off the rub and brought Scotty off the flare and were hoping to get the ball to Tobias (Harris) at the top of the key. But the young man guarding Tobias didn't bite on the flare, and when he stepped out, he was too far from the basket to be able to have time to make some kind of play. If we had another timeout, seeing how they guarded it, I probably would've called another timeout in that situation because of the quickness they had on Tobias."

Judging from the angle that he (Hopson) only took 5 shots in the game though, I would wonder if he really wanted it.

Thanks I didn't hear that, I guess it makes sense. But you would think Scotty the junior would want that shot not Tobias the freshman. I'd rather have Tobias take it of course,as Scotty would have traveled or kicked it out of bounds.

I called KPD and UTPD yesterday and asked them to issue an Amber Alert for Scotty Hopson. He's been missing since the Pitt game 2 weeks ago. 9.3 PPG and 29% shooting 10 turnovers during 3 game losing streak.

how was this game for him? not bad but not great? one thing i am happy about regarding hopson is his FT shooting. it seems much improved

I agree it wasn't great but it was a pretty good game for him. I'm like you, i'm reallt glad to see him shooting ft's better. I also like how he scored the last 9 points of the game (by attacking the rim) and took over. He can do that all the time if he wanted to.
