The SEC Owes Texas A Debt of Gratitude.

I really don't understand why people want Texas A&M so bad...does that team really excite you that much? We have the best conference in the nation with pretty much the perfect number of teams, and you want to expand to 14 just to add another average school that isn't even in the Southeast? Texas or Oklahoma would be one thing, but adding another 7-5 team to compete with Arkansas just isn't worth it...

I can't speak for "people" but I was excited about getting A&M for several reasons. The most important was I believe that had TAMU stuck it out, OU would have come along. You add one great team and the fanbase and their TV's and you get the SEC into Texas and their TV's too. If there are no ACC schools in play, just stay at 14. I certainly don't think thanks to Texas is warranted, they caused the whole mess.

Never get rid of Vanderbilt. During the past lean years we have had, the Vanderbilt victory has always been the saving grace to a somehwat sub-par season.

God I miss the Southwest. I hope it returns one day. And while i'm wishing my life away, if it could also bring the principals of Bill Yeoman offensive football back along with it.

I think Hat is more releaved that Oklahomer is not going into the Pac-16, than he is that Texas A&M is staying out of the SEC.

Wouldn't have made much difference to me. OU owned the Big Eight, they own the Big 12, they would have owned the PAC 16. Different names, same results.

Take all your shots at aTm you want, but youre out of line for making snide comments about Bon Fire.

I think that was pretty classless.

Darlin', I'm not sure they even know what Bonfire is, nor why making fun of it would be so wrong. I think they were making fun of the yell leaders, in general. But that's okay. I grew up around Aggies and Longhorns and went my own way with my devotion to the Vols. You and I both know that A&M would have been a great addition to the conference. It just wasn't meant to be. Maybe someday. And we still get our UT/A&M game on Thanksgiving (meaning one of my parents ends up not speaking to the other while the game is on...). :D

"On the flip side, had A&M joined, I'm sure several SEC schools would have done a great job of making fun of their fake military."

I hate to tell you this, if Va Tech had joined then there would 2 schools with a "fake military" to make fun of, since both have a corp of cadets Just thought I would throw that out there.

I'm pretty sure UT plays Kentucky around Thanksgiving...

Considering the way that Mr. Hat uses the term "jerkwater" to refer to various small cities, I shudder to think of what he'd refer to my hometown as.

Actually, home village.

Actually, home incorporated township outside a village of less than 400.
