I was actually thinking the SEC appeared weaker this year than normal…

Well, like the end of Movie Casablanca quote "round up the usual suspects" the media is like Renault in this movie with multiple great quotes. Lets see, LSU that sounds like a top 5 team and Clemson their usually good. Well UT beat both soundly. You're getting off the narrative my friend. Finebaum to Coach Kelly "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship" End of movie.
Finebaum had him on his show an acted like a teen aged girl at a Boy band concert.
This will all be cleared up a bit by October on the field.

After watching most teams this weekend I believe the league is stronger than it’s been in a long time. There will be a lot of upsets! Running the gauntlet ain’t going to be easy. Feelings are going to be hurt all over the conference.
It is only one week and some were just warm up games but I don’t see stronger.

UGA overwhelming talent but sputtered early against UTM

Bama was dominant against a decent MTSU team but QB is still a question

UF didn’t look good.

Vandy isn’t better

UK genuinely struggled with Ball State until half and some unforced mistakes

USCe is probably even worse than people are thinking. I believe the narrative around Beamer at the end of the year will be much different

Mizzou was not good vs an FCS team

I don’t think you can read better yet for A&M, Miss, MSU, or Arkansas.

Auburn looks improved

Definition of a Dilemma: When you are a UT fan, should you root for other SEC schools to WIN so as to help bolster our Schedule of Strength rating or, root for fellow SEC schools to LOSE to help UT in the rankings?
No dilemma ........... Hope every other SEC school loses.

It stopped going either way. LSU is getting embarrassed now.

Maybe Tenn IS still the 2nd best SEC team.
FSU did to LSU what Tennessee did to LSU last year. Anybody can win when everything is going your way. LSU just came apart when they faced some adversity . That's a coaching issue.

You guys need to have your eyes checked. The SEC is always the best conference in college football BY FAR. Recruiting rankings as well as the NFL Draft prove it to be true every year.
Neither proves the SEC is stronger this year

Once you get past the top 4 or 5 teams the SEC isn’t significantly better than the Big 10or PAC or possibly the Big 12. The lower half of the ACC is weak

Realignment will change all of it

Now. Crawl back to that hole you’ve been hiding in

It's a game-by-game decision. LSU is not on our schedule and a strong FSU hurts UF in recruiting, so we pull for FSU over LSU.

UF and SC are on our schedule so I prefer that they win their OOC games to improve our SOS, especially making it sweeter when we beat them.

Georgia played pretty bad against it martin

Better guess is that they sleepwalked through the game. They've gotten to the point that they probably believe they can turn it on and off by simply flipping a switch, and it's going to bite them in the ass at some point - hopefully on November 18.

Part of the problem is the rankings. They just need to do away with them until the CFP rankings comes out. There's no sense in ranking anyone until several weeks into the season. Then you wind up with these narratives about Colorado being big time after one game and LSU being way overrated.

I just wish we could play about 6 games and then sort it out from there without the rankings telling us who is "good" and who is "not."

I couldn’t agree more AND I think it would create a lot more interest in debating and discussing who is better early on. I think it would help CFB overall. Just leave the rankings out at least three weeks then it builds to a big reveal and no one can complain (or not as much).

There's just zero point in having rankings at this point in the season. Once you get 6 weeks down the road, you can take the teams who are 6-0, 5-1, or 4-2 and start talking about where they belong in terms of CFP, but I just hate that we have those rankings "defining teams" based on returning players or on expectations rather than waiting and ranking them vs what actually happens on the field.

Because sure, Colorado's win against TCU looks great. Even better bc they were ranked. But what if that's a 6-6 TCU team? Then that win isn't such a big deal and doesn't tell us much. The only reason we view that as a big win is the little numbers beside their name and the fact that "well, they were good last year, so they must be good this year."

The whole system is dumb. Now in 6 weeks, if TCU is 5-1 and destroying people, then we can say "Okay, Colorado, that was a solid win."

The body of work is just too volatile with the ways rosters turnover and the changes from season to season.

The CFP needs to be the only rankings that matter. JMO.

Pac 12 went 13-0 this weekend. Break them up. Oh wait a minute. We are.

That's the comical (and tragic) thing about this realignment garbage. The deepest conference from top to bottom is the one getting broken up and scattered. Oregon St. is a well coached, solid ranked team, and will be in a G5 conference next year. They couldn't ruin the college game any more if they had planned it this way.

I don't disagree, but the rankings are about nothing more than getting clicks and views for media outlets and generating buzz and interest early in the season, and they have succeeded.

Think about it - the network hyping a game by saying "#5 LSU vs. #8 FSU" sounds a hell of a lot more important than simply naming the teams, especially for the casual fan who doesn't pay attention like we do. And that's at least 75% of the audience.
