The Section 103 Postgame Report-Mississippi State

Thank you- don't throw down on the students for not showing up... they chose academics over basketball- and given the way this team has been playing, I wouldn't disagree with that decision.

Oh, one last thing- the students deserve their seats as much as everyone else, actually- maybe even more so. Without students, there is NO university- remember that for the future... UT is a UNIVERSITY not a sporting complex, as some would lead us to believe.

Good Lord that's pathetic. This might be one of the worst posts I've read. Do the students pay the coaches salary, the practice facility or TBA?

If you want to watch college teams that don't function like a business, head over to Carson-Newman or Maryville College.

I'm wondering if we can even put together a 2-game winning streak before NCAA tourney time. No reason to believe we can make any noise in a tournament if we can't put together a winning streak in the regular season.

Hat: is Darrin Horn legit, or are they just shrugging off the aftereffects of Dave Odom hanging on entirely too long? Or is their roster (other than Downey) simply better than advertised?
My guess is that the presence of Devan Downey and the utter futility of the rest of the SEC East have combined to make him look better than he actually is.

1. A needed win was captured. That's the good news. The bad news is there was nothing in that performance that indicated this team is going to do anything but continue being the middling group they've been all year.
2. We've found the key for Scotty Hopson. He just needs to play all of his games against teams that also recruited him.
3. Rick Stansbury has to look at the components of his team and lament the fact Jamont Gordon lost his mind and left school early. Someone to draw defenders with drives, thus creating space for their shooters, is the one thing the Bulldogs are missing.
4. Pathetic showing by the student body tonight. The next time they cry about not having better seats, someone should show them the section behind the basket tonight.
5. I realize intramurals at UT are run by people not smart enough to work in maintenance, but could we at least get enough ball racks to properly conduct a 3 point shooting contest? I realize there have been some budget cuts, but I'm pretty sure there have to be 5 racks sitting around at the HPER building.
6. UCONN solidified themselves as a #1 seed. If AJ Price keeps rounding back into form, they may be able to offset the loss of Jerome Dyson after all.7. Put a fork in Marquette. They're not going anywhere without Dominic James available.
8. Valentine's Day has come and gone. Thus, it's time for Clemson to suck.
9. The loser of the Kentucky-Florida game Tuesday night is going to have a tough time making a case for an at large bid. Both resumes are exceptionally weak.
10. Arkansas should pass on the SEC Tournament. Tonight is a great example of what happens when a bad team quits on their lousy coach.

With the way Stanley Robinson is playing the loss of Dyson has hardly been felt.

Hat, I have some friends that live in KY and they say that this morning the fanbase is in mutiny mode against CBG.

How hot do you think the water surrounding Clyde is?

Nowhere near as hot as people think.

If we win one of the remaining 2 road games, it will be this weekend's match up with the Gators. I would say our odds are better than 50/50 given Pearl's dominance over them and their complete implosion in the second half of league play.

Ha!

It's not an implosion, you jackass!

.... We were always this bad, all year long.

Florida just hasn't gotten blown out by anyone except Tennessee....quite impressive actually. I liked how they fought against LSU till the very end. They'll be really good next year with Macklin...that's their missing link. I think he'll make an immediate impact.

What's your take on Sunday's game?

Hat what is the deal with BG and this contract he refuses to sign and UK refuses to alter the language of?
A bit of posturing on both sides. The memorandum of understanding he is working under now handles every material issue related to his employment.

So both sides are still protected and BG isn't in any more vulnerable than he would be with a signed correct?

There is no doubt UT looked much better in the half-court offense last night. There was more motion and picks thus creating better shots. They must continue to improve upon this showing. If Scotty continues to improve, he will be our most potent offensive threat come tournament time.

I haven't seen a lot of them this year, but their big men were better than I expected last night.

There's no way their big man should have blocked that many shots, those were the same big men Wayne Chism was supposed to dominate.. but do you see what happens when your players actually give 100% effort?

Archie and Holmes have both been solid down low. Frederick has been a great companion outside for Downey. Saying that, Downey makes everyone on that team look way better than they actually are.

Pretty much. The monetary aspects, as well as anything else that could be resonably considered important, are covered in detail in the memorandum of understanding.

Its at home so I guess that's worth something, but for whatever reason Donovan simply refuses to concede that UT has better athletes and can play a better full court, up tempo style, than can the Gators. Florida might have a chance if it played for a score in the 50's. (If nothing else, it would be fun to try because I think Pearl's head would explode in frustration).

But given that we seem to be so stubborn as to try to play your game plan, I'd say UT wins by at least 10.

If they are counting on Vernon Macklin to be anything but an average role player, they're in for an unpleasant surprise.

How the hell did they go from beating two of the top 4 teams in the Big 12 to the basement of the SEC?

Surely they quit on their coach after they'd slid precipitously, right?

The Soph. Muldrow also played very well last night.

Agreed. There are soooo many UK fans out there that really do not deserve to have internet access. There are always fans of each program that hate their coach, it just so happens the ones at UK are magnified because of their numbers.

IF BG had signed his contract already, then you can count on him being here for 4 or 5 solid recruiting classes before anyone pulls the plug. However without the contract signed, you might see nothing but his backside as he sprints out the exit. but I see him staying.

By the way hat, never posted with you much seeing as I am new and not here much... but I love reading your stuff.

#8 and #9 are spot on. lol

We'll see. He'll definitely be an upgrade to Werner. I think Tyus and Macklin make up a pretty good front court. Calathes, Boynton, Parsons, Macklin, and Tyus make a pretty good starting lineup.

9. The KY-FLA game is actually the season finale, a week from Sunday. Each team still has two more games before then, but, yeah, the winner will probably get in. The loser better have performed well between now and then.

If KY loses to LSU, they'll be 9-6 going to UF. If the Gators don't beat UT, they'll be 8-6 with a road game at MSU to go. I think we can go ahead and chalk a home win over UGA for the Cats.
