1. The 'AA has ruined exhibition games. A game against the Argentinian Junior National Team or the Globetrotters is a barometer, while a matchup with North Alabama is a glorified shootaround.
2. This team still doesn't value the ball enough. Way too many loose possessions tonight.
3. Good to see Woolridge have the offensive flurry bridging the halves. For the first 19 minutes, he looked like the worst player in America.
4. This group does do a good job of sharing the ball. Thirty plus assists, especially on a night when guys could have gotten big numbers going one on one, is an indication of that.
5. They have to do a better job blocking out on the initial shot after someone breaks the press. North Alabama got a couple of cheap buckets off the offensive glass in the first half.
6. Cam Tatum is still lacking his pre injury explosiveness. He failed to finish because of a lack of lift at the rim a couple of times.
7. The points guards were so so. My guess is that they're going to be what most of us expect.
8. I'm skeptical whether or not this team is built to press in the manner the head coach wants to. They're long, but they are not overly quick.
9. Kenny Hall's energy is a welcome addition. He'll help against teams like Ole Miss that don't have bruisers in the post.
10. Rome wasn't built in a day. Nothing great or awful out of this one.

Scotty looked like the guy he was supposed to be coming out of high school. I predict Skyler Mcbee will be a better shooting Dane Bradshaw, he looked as if he was putting a lot into the game tonight.

If Scotty keeps going on like that, I'll be proven wrong.

Lets see, they won by about 40. And yet, you come up with 3 out of 10 positive comments. Forget the fact 14 players played, i.e. it's hard to get into a flow. If Chism, Smith and Hopson played the minutes they will in the regular season, they win by 60.
You're just like all sports writers- tryin to make a story when nothing is there. You can tell nothing by this game but thanks for your input.
What a joke!

"Getting in the flow" is going to make Tatum jump higher, Maze able to stay in front of his man, and Prince quit throwing the ball away? It sure didn't last year.

it's been a problem for a while so unfortunately I don't see it changing

Hat, What was your impression of McBee? And also do you think Woolridge gets some quality playing time this year?

He shot it well. The deciding factor in whether he can help or not will be whether he can get his shot off and defend when he gets matched with superior athletes. I've qiven up trying to assess Woolridge. Sometimes he looks like a major contributor, sometimes he looks like he should be the last man off the bench at Tusculum.

Pearl needs to be as creative on defense as he is on offense. UT's defense kept North Alabama in the game during the first half.

Williams did really good from what I saw on the Internet. Of course, he did well last year against, who was it, MTSU. Doesn't anyone think he can do the same against top-notch competition (Hat need not apply)?

No. He's slow, weak, runs out of gas quickly, and he can't jump. He is sort of like an offensive lineman in football; he's there to take up space. What do you think?

I see no reason to believe he will.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hall takes minutes away from Williams and becomes Chism backup at center.

Ithought some of Hat's comments were insightful and fair. It is difficult to judge with them running in and out, etc. For what it is worth I was a little disappointed initially. The second group looked extremely weak in the first half but improved some in the second half. They did distribute the ball well but I thought all of our guards appeared slow defensively. Mcfee/Mcbee has a beautiful stroke if left alone but I don't think he can keep up with SEC caliber guards as he is a little smallish and waves his arms a lot on d but really doesn't stay in front of his man and this was N. Alabama. The point also appears to be one of the weaker links to me. I look for Scotty H's 3pt and field goal percentage to be much better than last years. He and Williams appeared the most impressive to me with Swiperboy looking awful in the first half and really good in the second half. I will say that historically we have looked a lot better once the regular season rolls around.

How do you start a thread?

Look, if you want to judge this team based on one performance, go right ahead. But continually rotating men in and out only leads to sloppiness, especially when its 11-14 players. Players will naturally try to do more than they're capable if they know the bench is only seconds away. Once UT gets into the meat of the schedule, Bruce will have settled on a rotation and the play won't be as sloppy.
Hopson, Smith and Chism will get about 30 minutes a game since they are far and away the best players on the squad. With those three on the court that much, the play of the others won't matter as much since the trio will have the ball in their hand the most in scoring positions.
After the Kansas game is when you'll know what this team is about. I'm not sure they're gonna be challenged until then. By then, the rotation will be settled.
Most top 10 teams in the country would have done what UT did to North Alabama and that's win by about 40 points. A 40-point margin is more than enough for more than three positive comments, but to each his own.
But just to further prove maybe you're being too critical. You said the point guard play was so so. Maze scored 6 points (2 of 3 shooting) with 9 assists and one turnover. I don't know, but that's pretty solid.
Again, wait for Kansas and then say something about this team. Until then, Bruce will have most of his lesser players seeing quality time, while the better players won't be on the floor quite as much in order to see which players deserve playing time.

He didn't play in the second half so his numbers won't look all that impressive. But, IMO, he looked fine. Didn't shoot the outside ball and drove to the basket most of the time.
