A few questions for you hat since I didn't see the game.
5. Is this just a lack of discipline that you seen only one possessions when we were pressing? because it seems to me just from reading your post that it would be more of a problem of being outnumbered because the press is broken and if that happens then they should have numbers on us.
7. I know that CBP was quoted praising bobby maze for distributing the ball well. Did you see an improvement in his ability to get teammates good looks or was that just the result of players being open due to the competition?
8. Do you feel our quickness hurts us on our rotation or more on the ability to deny the ball in all places but the corner and get the initial trap?
Last question, after seeing McBee for the first time in a Tennessee uniform do you believe he is going to be able to get open and get shots over SEC defenders?
thanks
While we are waiting on Hat I will give you my take:
I think 5 had to do with boxing out and rebounding and we did a very poor job of that in the first half - Williams didn't play that half and he probably does the best at it for us. We were about even with a much smaller team in rebounds at the end of the first half.
7. I think it was some of each- there were times when we moved and distributed the ball very well. Other times N. Alabama just not guarding anyone.
8. We are pretty long at times but not very quick anywhere that I have seen. CBP's first couple of teams were amazingly quick and great pressers. This team not so much even though BP would like them to be. You have some long arms but very little quickness and if last night was an indication it looked to me like you would be giving up as much as you gained by pressing against good teams. Just don't seem to have the personel for it.
Lastly, after seeing McBee for the first time it would not
appear to me that he would be able to get open and or shoot over SEC guards. Keeping in mind that he is a walkon and he got a lot of minutes, he had a beautiful smooth stroke, but was constantly getting left by his man on D, ran to his spot on offense and mostly stayed there so not much movement without the ball, and he is rather smallish and does not shoot the fade away jumper that some small guards like Lofton, Justus, and others develop because they are small.
Based on last night, if teams play a man he will not score very much at all in my opinion. If teams leave him alone in a zone he could hurt them but I don't see that happening much unless you are N. Alabama etc. He won't hurt you too much but I don't think that he will be able to get many shots against an SEC caliber guard playing man to man. He is going to haft to move his feet better and stay in front of his man on defense as well. He is very good for a walk on, but I am afraid some SEC guards may eat him alive.
