The shut down thread

What a crock! No data, bet more dems died defending this country than repubs. The middle class and the poor die on the battle field not the upper class and the wealthy. Get a damn clue.

If the current polling is accurate then you are very wrong. Oh and read the whole damn article before you spout off about the officer portion.

And trump's 2013 comments were that it's all the president's fault and shows a complete lack of leadership. Let's hold everyone to their 2013 comments.

What were the circumstances back then?... of which Trump wasn’t in the room to negotiate if you will, he was an outsider who didn’t have a seat at the table in 2013, thus his opinion like mine and yours had the same grain of salt value.

When we start questioning another's patriotism based on party affiliation, then we are heading down a dangerous road.

Umm when did I do that? I was replying to his thought that the vast majority of military were democrats bc they were middle class at best.

I have, nor do I believe anyone does outside of treason, have the right to judge anyone’s patriotism.

I think we need to do a roll call, so we know how many VN posters died because of the shutdown.

Thank God I survived.

You haven't been paying attention. I encourage you to listen to Schumer and McConnell trade low blows on the floor of the Senate last night.

McConnell blaming the Dems, Schumer blaming Trump. It's fascinating to think there are people falling for it.

No need; we've seen the drill many many times before. There are a couple of bills (both sides) to separately pass spending for the military - unlikely either will see the light of day.

The logical solution would simply be to decide what is necessary funding and ensure it never gets cut off. Two problems. Nobody in congress is going to admit anything isn't necessary - at least on a bipartisan basis; and doing so, ensures no leverage to hold the other side hostage.

I guess you could just label the whole mess a Mexican standoff.

Come on, approving a budget deal is more important than finding a way to advance DACA.
DACA involves 0.2167% of our US population, while we are harming millions of American citizens needlessly in the process. There's time for DACA later.

Exactly, but the Dims need leverage to get their way. DACA can't pass without a Dim temper tantrum of some sort; if it waits they have to give the Reps something they want in return to get it done.

Democrats are in the driver's seat... Trump's arrogance once again blinds him to this fact. As he said himself in 2013:

"Well, if you say who gets fired it always has to be the top," Trump said. "I mean, problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top and the president's the leader. And he's got to get everybody in a room and he's got to lead."

He said that further down in history, "when they talk about the government shutdown, they're going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time."

Let it ride!

I don't disagree with any of this.

6 year CHIP and 3 weeks to fix DACA or come up with a comprehensive immigration plan. If congress cannot fix DACA in 3 weeks then it should shut down.

Forget for a second that a vast majority of Americans believe that the daca kids should stay. A clean daca bill was requested and rejected, the white house is specifically using these kids as leverage for a generally unpopular $18 billion dollar border wall that will accomplish nothing.

Both sides are utilizing a leverage point, yet only one side is throwing a tantrum?

Even Lamar woke up from his coma to join the debate.....

Maybe we should just have a CR every 3 weeks so things get done. CHIP could have already been done. DACA should have already been done. Military funding should have already been done. Increased border security should have already been done.

The amount of money it would cost to round up and deport the DACA people would be better served on border security.

It takes 3 weeks for congress to decide the procedure for taking a vote.

You obviously were not in the military.

Nice try though.

edit-

Its kind of scary that you actually think that more democrats gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Supply clerks, finance, and cooks don't often get in the trenches homie.
