The smoke screen may be working

If this is a "smoke screen", even if Hart hires Gruden, Bob Stoops, Gary Patterson, etc., he should be fired. This is beyond embarrassing for Tennessee. Also, Strong really wanted this job from all accounts and something changed. That something has got to be Hart screwing around with Gundy, not some double-secret hire. While the UK and Auburn hires are underwhelming, Arkansas got Bielema. In spite of Arkansas' recent success under Petrino, Tennessee is a better job and we should be able to get a good candidate (like Charlie Strong). Hart's hubris to do this on his own has doomed Tennessee.

Where has an official "offer" been turned down? The only "offers" are part of the rumor mill and media circus. The lid is tight on this one for a change.

Agreed. There have been reports of a offers to Gundy and Strong, but neither offer has been confirmed by anyone at the UTAD. The media is running wild with rumors.

I'd suggest shutting off your internet connection ASAP.

If he has a big time hire already set, why are we offering the job to people who are turning it down. Not trying to be an ass, because i hope your right. But, interviewing other coaches would be one thing.....why offer the job if you have it given away already?

Because there are some posters on this board who are delusional.

Dude get the bong back in here. Forget smokescreens. Maybe we can blow some smoke signals and try to get us some help. Anybody know how to spell S.O.S. ?????

The smoke screen has turned into a 15,000 acre blaze.

4 coaches publicly turning us down isn't a smokescreen anymore.

For all we know the deal has already been done....Hart said by mid December he would announce the HC....just waiting until it's ok to say...this is just the 5th of December........UT Football is back..just watch..

Call it a smokescreen or whatever you want to call it! I believe Tennessee is already at the beginning of the 2nd
String. When we exhaust all of the 2nd String, then we will be into the "whoever" category. After the "whoever"
category, then we ask if anybody already on the staff at
UT wants to be HFC.

Most of the second string is gone already as well.

Jones may be Colorado bound.

Doeren is at NC ST.

Malzahn is at Arkansas.

Dykes is at Cal.

Hazell is at Purdue. etc etc

The only people getting all worked up over this are the ones who don't have faith and confidence that Hart can do his job.

Others.............not so much in freaked out mode.

Right, makes sense. Hire somebody, and then offer the job to 3 or 4 more people and potentially get them to leave their current jobs, when there really isn't an opening at UT for them.

I'm sure that plan would inspire some legal ramifications. The further this goes though, the more we look like a bag full of idiots, so who knows....they might be trying to get commitments from 3 or 4 different people and have them all there together at the same joint presser.

I get the "smokescreen" stuff and claims of Gruden being hired for weeks now. What I don't get is what happens when Charlie Strong or Mike Gundy interviews for the job in an attempt to get more money and then their AD tells them NO? Then informs them they can look for other work as they have overstepped their bounds in looking for other work? Are you trying to tell me other AD's are in on it? Other schools have the time to play this "smokescreen" game? We are landing planes in Louisville and Stillwater for the fun of it? Hart is doing all this "smokescreen" just to wait a few days to announce Gruden? It is worth dragging the UT image through the mud in every media outlet in the country? Something just does not add up. Hart agreed to do this so Gruden could get a last Bucs payment? Why did UT not just pay the payment themselves and hire the guy a week ago? Protect Dooley's feelings? Really? I guess today is Pelini's turn to help Hart "smokescreen" it up huh? Hart must have some great connections to get all these people to help "smokescreen" yet not spill the beans to the master plan at hand.

You do realize how ridiculous this sounds, right?

This whole process has been ridiculous. It's either going to be the most epic black ops coaching search ever or the most inept. I'm hoping the former.
