The South Carolina Postgame Report

17 inside the paint and 7 threes = 24 total field goals. didnt watch the game, but youre telling me they didnt hit a shot inside the three but outside the paint? thats got to be some kind of record

Didn't look at a shot chart but it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't close to this. There is no mid-range game in college basketball anymore.

Thank God McRae has started playing consistently over a long stretch. He's probably the best player on the team when it comes to one-on-one matchups and creating his own shot. He didn't even launch a single stupid three pointer tonight.

Would someone explain to me why a team (UT) playing with a lead and the ball late in the game, simply dribble out the shot clock and then pump up an impossible shot. This happens alot and it drives me crazy. Why not run the offence for the possibility of a better shot.

I don't remember any really horrible shots down the stretch tonight. A lot of turnovers in the half court but everyone did a pretty good job on the possessions that they actually managed to not turn it over.

Got his pocket picked a couple times tonight, which is something I don't remember him having a problem with before. I am going to chalk those up to quicker than average guards for SoCar and some fairly liberal officiating when it came to what is arm and what is ball. Hope it doesn't become a problem. UT needs all the ball handlers they can find.

After getting six minutes at Kentucky, his numbers:

12.3/5/2.5/1 block/1.3 TO's

46.7/36.7/73.1 slash line

I'll take it.

Yeah, I don't see his ball handling being a huge problem. As you stated, I think it had more to do with South Carolina's aggressive guard play.

I said it before the season and I'll say it now, Jordan McRae is a 1st team All-SEC player. He has all of the tools to make an NBA roster from the neck down. His biggest problem is what's going on in his head. If he can continue to focus and listen to Cuonzo Martin, he will accomplish good things.

Totally agree.

He's getting there. I said that next year he'll explode and his improvement is showing that.

Don't forget that he has a kid to worry about. With his size and athleticism, I think he'll submit paperwork to the NBA after this year, but I doubt he'll hire an agent.

I don't understand why a lot of teams haven't pressed Tennessee more. Even an average pressing team would have a field day against the Vols.

UT was doing fairly well early against the press. It was when Maymon went out with 3 fouls and Martin decided to slow it down that things got ugly in the 2nd half. In the 1st half they struggled when Golden was out and Martin didn't want to burn his 3rd TO to get him back in the game.

Didn't get to watch this game. DVR'd it yet again. Sounds like we played some decent defense. USCjr shot 22 more times than UT did. 22!

UT had 21 turnovers and USCjr stole the ball 12 times to UT's 6.

As I said, I didn't watch the game, but Tatum had a pretty good stat line. He was 2-3 from the field for 5 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 4 turnovers. He played more than any other player with 37 minutes. McRae played the next most with 32. Solid stat line from Tatum tonight.

McRae would be absolutely stupid if he declared. He better learn to speak a foreign language because that is the only league he would play in right now.

He is progressing and has all the physical tools. Just needs to be consistent and work on his overall game. This team could be a solid team next year. We get everyone back that is a major contributor outside of Tatum.

The OP is not saying he leaves, he's saying he submits paperwork. You get 1 time to submit paperwork and go through the draft workouts, basically for free and without an agent if you want. Most players do this their junior year because you have nothing to lose by doing it.

You get to go work out and have NBA scouts tell you what it is that you need to work on and where they see you as being drafted. The OP is saying McRae may go do that this year to get an idea of his stock and what he needs to work on. Then will come back for his junior year to work on those things and try to build his stock, and then leave after next year most likely. That's what the OP was saying, not leave after this year.

I know that. I'm just saying that McRae shouldn't need a NBA scout to tell him what he needs to work on at this point. He isn't there at this point.

If he plays all next season the ways he's played the last 2 weeks here he will be a 1st round pick.

If he does that then UT will be a legitimate SEC title contender. His immaturity cost him last year. He has gotten better this year, but is still a work in progress. If he would commit to playing defense like Martin has tried to drill in him then he could be the best player on the team. He has the length and athleticism to be a helluva defensive player.

Bingo! And most of what you're preaching is "potential" he has. We all know how much the NBA loves potential, so if he can put together a consistent season I see him as a projected 1st rounder.

I don't remember one going down. Miller missed two or so like that and Golden missed one that I can remember.

10. although golden had 21 and was nice offensively, he played one of his worst PG games this season. 1 ast to 6 to is an absolute disgrace to the position, hopefully it was just a 1 game relapse.

PG, the weakest position on the team. Must improve if we have a chance of beating a top 10 team.
