The state of Memphis Football

Those teams with Wimprine and Williams weren't bad at all. Too bad they decided not to capitalize on their football program being decent for a few years.

Wimprine was a pretty damn entertaining player to watch.

R. C. Johnson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

He is also known as the least capable Athletic Director in the NCAA. Know to run entire AD department from the local Houston's restaurant (via private booth) New hair spray is said to have clouded his vision, while the rest of the NCAA passed by. His goal is to make his lover, Shirley Raines, proud by ruining the athletic program as a whole, starting with football, then basketball, and on down the line.[1].

They had some good seasons when DeAngelo was there. They upset Ole Miss in '03 when Eli was a senior and they almost won the SECw. Went to like three straight bowl games and won two of them. Finished 10-3 in 2003 and I think they actually finished the year in the top 25. That was their one and only chance to keep the ball rolling, but like another poster said, they went with basketball and put all their chips into that.

This.

They probably should have beaten Tennnessee in 2005. I was at the game and they outplayed UT most of the day, and UT came back and won. And DeAngelo didn't even play.

During that 3 year period it looked like they were building a decent program but that went to crap. And yeah they have basketball but honestly it's gone down since Calipari left. They dont' exactly strike fear into anyone on the basketball court anymore.

Preseason top 10 this year with two top recruiting classes. Cal didn't even make the tourney until year 4 or 5 I think. That being said, doesn't mean jack until Josh has tournament wins.

I just think the image of Tiger bball has lost some of it's "fear" to it. Pastner isn't as intimidating as Cal was. He's still got the program on the right track and should pick up where Cal left the program a couple of years ago. They should make a Sweet 16 this year. They definitely have all the talent in the world to do it. It all falls on Pastner's shoulders.

True, but I think their image took a bit of a hit after Cal left.

As with any major program who loses a big time coach. Pastner has done a good job of keeping things afloat and not letting the program slide much (with exception to year 1, but who can blame that).

Tomorrow's game vs. APSU is going to be pathetic. They might have 10K in the stands, not much more.

Broadcast, yeah I said broadcast, just highlighted donation by DeAngelo Williams for facility upgrades. This is something I have always felt was lacking in their program. Athletic alumni not giving back.
