Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Tennessee Lady Volunteers have traded places in a short time

Programs headed in different directions. The last line really hurts...

It doesn't help that at least for now there are no reinforcements on the way after Tennessee struck out in recruiting.

"We've lost six games, uncharacteristic for Tennessee," Warlick said. "But that doesn't mean we don't have a heart, that we don't fight, that we don't love this program.

"This group needs somebody to rally behind."
Notre Dame was an excellent program long before Diggins arrived seven years ago and long before that night in Dayton five years ago.

It just wasn't the kind of program that beat Tennessee. Tennessee remains an excellent program eight years after its last national championship.
It just isn't the kind of program that beats Notre Dame.

At least for now, those days are history.

Holly says were working hard and really trying so evidently none of the players are very good and far below their Hoopgurlz ranking.

The saddest thing is that while we aren't the kind of program that can beat ND, they aren't the kind of program that can beat uconn (not lately). That leaves us at least two full levels behind uconn. And it doesn't look like we will be moving up any time soon.

Notre Dame had been better than us for a while. Not sure of the exact record but since 2008 at lest they have been beating out tail.

Pat Summitt was Lady Vols basketball. She's gone. When Geno leaves UConn same thing will happen.

I'm not so sure. Coach Summitt's departure was unplanned and unexpected. Unless something untoward happens Auriemma will have time to make the transition a little smother.

That said - UConn will not be the same team once he leaves.

Pat was/is not the only coach that can make the VOLs winners. Holly is not one of these coaches. I hope we make a change and bring in a winner.....pitiful is not an accurate description of the Lady Vols game.

Holly's coaching debut was a loss to Chattanooga. That was a huge red flag, warning sign, call it what you will back then.

The last time we beat ND I think was in 08 tourney.... They got skylar in 2009-2010 and have been phenomenal since then

It depends on who is hired to replace him...Granted, his successor will have trouble matching his dominance, but if you hire a good coach then you can expect to maintain a strong program. If you don't, you get us.

but McGraw has proven multiple times that she can beat us with less than great talent. In fact, I don't think ND's talent level now is all that impressive--but they know how to put the ball in the basket, no matter who they have on the court, and we don't. McGraw absolutely schools our staff every time we play.

Fans seem to forget that the program was on a pretty steady downhill slide with Summitt; we'd fallen off quite a bit. Recruiting was mediocre. The chronic problems we have with bad team offense--poor movement, terrible passing, lousy shooting and too many turnovers--all started under Summitt. We've had these same problems--EVERY YEAR--for a decade or longer. The game got better--better players, better coaches--and PS's reliance on rebounding and defense became outdated. Warlick wasn't qualified to take over this program--and then to make matters worse she hews to PS's old philosophy of defense and rebounding; the offense is even worse now than it was under PS, which is saying something, and the wheels are coming off what was once an orange and white Ferrari. We're more like a Ford Escort these days....

Given that ND lost Loyd and Reimer from last year's team and that Turner has been injured most of the year, Tennessee should have done to them what they did to Stanford last year. It's unbelievable that they were down by 25 to them until Muffet called off the dogs and her end-of-the-bench squad started making turnovers, bad shots and missed free throws to keep the score "respectable".

Recruiting wasn't bad. Since the 2007 championship, she had 3 #1 recruiting classes (Angie B's class, Shekinna's class, Cierra's class). The biggest difference is that while Pat wasn't a great X's and O's coach, she was a great motivator. I don't see that same fire in Holly, so it's all very paint by numbers.

Yes I totally agree. I said just yesterday how much better 33 and 22 are than any of our players.

Muffet knows how to develop players her girls are fundamentally sound they get better year after year she can take those middle of the pack girls and have them playing quality ball... If Muffey had Tenn's roster she would be undefeated

Tennessee (11-6) has lost consecutive games for the second consecutive season and has reached six losses at the earliest juncture since the 1996-97 season.

Before the Notre Dame loss, Tennessee plunged five spots in the Associated Press poll to No. 18, its lowest ranking of the season and its lowest overall since the second week of the 2012-13 season.

The program's streak of 561 consecutive weeks in the AP poll, which stretches back more than 30 years, is in jeopardy. The only game standing between Tennessee and the next vote is Thursday (TV: SEC, 7 p.m.) against SEC rival Vanderbilt at Thompson-Boling Arena.

You bring up this point in most of your posts. It is apparent that you do not respect her as you continually point out the poor coaching job you believe she did that allowed the team to slide. Why don't you give her a break and lay the he!! off.
