The Supreme Power of Home Court

Guys and gals, it's simple. Comfort! Dispell if you'd like with stats. All I know from stats is this... I shot 71% at home in 4 years and 42% on the road as a 5'10" SG. I spent 4 years shooting all the time in my home gym. I knew the stroke from any place on the floor. The head gets messed just by changing surroundings. As simple as another HS gym. Take it for what it's worth.

Shooting is a big part of it, especially in underclass men usually.

Look at our whole team % at home vs on % on the road. It's night and day, ESPECIALLY from outside the arc.

Some players numbers are VERY different home/away, others not so significant, but with us as a team it's a big difference shooting home vs away.

How often do we practice at TBA? It is my impression that 90% or more of our shooting practice takes place at Pratt.

Basketball like no other sport seems to have such a huge advantage for the home team. I don't feel like it is an exaggeration to say the home team virtually starts the game with a double digit lead. What is the biggest factor in this advantage?

Crowd?

Routine?

Familiarity with court(shooting)?

Added:
Officiating?

Confidence?

Familiarity is the big thing. Players shooting in their own gym have a optical advantage because everything in their visual field of the basket is commonplace.

I see where you are headed but I'm not convinced that is as big a deal as one might think. Take UK for instance. They practice on campus at the Craft Center. They rarely step foot in Rupp Arena downtown except on gameday.

BTW - Nice thread Bruinvol.

Shooting is more about confidence perhaps than familiarity. I keep thinking that coaches along with the media have beaten kids down with the fact that winning on the road takes perfect play. Kids thinking they have to play perfectly is a recipe for disaster and that to me is the biggest reason teams struggle on the road.

We practice and do ALOT OR ALL of our shoot arounds in TBA.

Most practices are probably in PRATT, but we do practice and hold shoots rounds in TBA somewhat frequently.

Also, if a player wants to go shoot in TBA and there's nothing going on, they are allowed, it's their choice.
