I'd ranked my favorite late night hosts as follows;

1. Craig Ferguson
2. Jimmy Fallon
3. Conan
4. Letterman
5. Kimmel
6. Leno

Top three are the best IMO. Letterman is just old, Kimmel is meh, and I flat out couldn't stand Leno.

Can't stand Ferguson. I'm a Conan guy myself, been watching his show for years.

My list:
1. Conan
2. Letterman
3. Kimmel/Fallon
4. Leno
100. Ferguson

I have no idea how Leno lasted as long as he did. The only remotely funny thing he did was Headlines, and being the joke thief he was he stole that from Letterman.

Speaking of Letterman, my goodness he needs to retire. I tried to watch the other night and I didn't even come close to chuckling, much less laughing. He doesn't even seem like he cares anymore. They need him to step aside and let Ferguson take over the Late Show.

I still don't know about Seth Meyers on Late Night. I really don't think he can carry a show like Fallon did.

If that's a joke, then it's very funny.

Letterman in his prime destroys Leno in whatever is considered his prime.

That's a good joke answer.

Ask America. Considering Leno owned Letterman in the ratings. America knows best.

I really enjoyed Letterman's witty top 10 list and his "will it float" segments. *sarcasm*

Letterman was great until he had heart surgery. Then he changed and his material got stale.

Leno was always boring.

Conan and Jimmy Fallon are my current top two favorite late night hosts. Love that Jimmy gave all of the former Tonight Show hosts a shout-out on his first show. I wish I was old enough to have enjoyed Johnny Carson, though.

I said in their primes. Neither one has been worth a crap for over a decade. And bragging Leno wins the ratings over Letterman is like a 4-8 team bragging because they beat a 3-9 team.

There's a reason NBC pushed Leno out.

I got to witness a bit, He retired when I was young only until his last year or so was I even old enough to stay up that late. I do remember seeing parts of his last show.

The clips I've seen since tells me I probably would have enjoyed watching him.

Carson was the best ever at it,of course that was back when you had 3 channels for TV,if your antenna was pointed right,so he didn't have a lot of competition,I just watch the talk shows when I can't find nothing else on,I don't really care for Fallon at all

This is interesting! It also might explain why Fallons shows have been front loaded with talent since his take over.

Jimmy Fallon NBC Threatens Celebs ...It's Fallon or the Highway

NBC is coming down like a hammer on celebs who want to get on Jimmy Fallon's show ... if they dare do a show on CBS or ABC ... they can forget about "The Tonight Show."

Sources connected to CBS, NBC and ABC tell TMZ ... the Peacock network believes Jimmy Fallon's ratings success gives them extreme bargaining power. They put the word out to celebs, agents and publicists ... if they want to be on Fallon they can't appear on ANY other network ... and not just shows that go head-to-head with Jimmy, but morning shows as well.

We're told NBC is saying the stars who go on Fallon are also allowed to appear on "Today," "Dateline" and any similar shows they air, but that's it.

A GMA source tells TMZ ... they've already gotten fallout from people they were trying to book.

Fallon is dominating late night .... crushing Jimmy Kimmel by bringing in more than twice the number of viewers.

‘Tonight Show’ Accused of Blocking Guests From Appearing on Rival Networks

‘Tonight Show’ Accused of Blocking Guests From Appearing on Rival Networks

One of NBC's rivals says the network is blocking “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” guests from appearing on competing network shows — a contention NBC denies.

An insider from a morning show on another network says NBC is taking advantage of Fallon's strong ratings to try to monopolize guests. The person told TheWrap that NBC does not allow a celebrity to do competitors’ shows for three months — even morning shows.

“We've been hearing … that they've been promising packages to the big stars,” the morning show insider told TheWrap. “[NBC is saying], ‘We'll give you ‘The Voice,’ ‘Today,’ or even spots on ‘Nightly [News].'”

“It's like a full-court press,” the insider added, claiming that NBC is “dangling” E!, Bravo, Telemundo, and other NBCUniversal properties in front of potential guests.

There's nothing unusual about bookers trying to get guests exclusively, but NBC is “playing a bit more hardball,” the insider said.

Another person, with knowledge of the late night landscape, said the contention of strong-arming was “probably a very exaggerated truth.” Both the morning and late-night sources noted that in January NBC named Kathy Kelly-Brown senior vice president of Global Talent Booking with an eye toward landing New York City guests.

“With all these shows there is a struggle for guests … and NBC did hire [Kelly-Brown] in New York City, who is facilitating booking between all of their entertainment shows throughout NBCUni, so that office probably has some leverage, but [it] sounds a little extreme,” the late-night person said.

“You couldn't pull that with a big name,” the person continued. “Maybe someone who is lesser-known and just starting out on an NBC show.”

NBC denies any wrongdoing: ”While of course the network would like to get the best talent on its morning show and late night, by no means are we strong-arming anyone,” a network insider told TheWrap.

An executive at another network said the booking issues may be more about logistics than anything else. Because “The Tonight Show,” “Late Night,” “Saturday Night Live” and “The Today Show” are so close together, it's very easy for a guest to do several NBC shows. That wasn't the case when “The Tonight Show” was in Burbank.

“Being in New York City has sort of messed up everyone's biorhythms,” the executive told TheWrap, adding ”These types of booking shenanigans have been going on since the dawn of time. The only difference right now is Fallon's hot.”
