America was built on a live and let live attitude. Before the current crop of busybodies, do-gooders and nannies gained political power, we let people do what they like - even if they were hurting themselves - as long as didn't hurt anyone else. We'd only step in if an unwilling bystander was being harmed. That left the door open for the Second Hand Smoke (SHS) attack on smokers.

If SHS really is as dangerous as the government, political organizations and charities claim, efforts to prevent it and contain it might be justified. But is it dangerous? We're bombarded by endless proclamations of its horrors, claims that get more fantastic with each passing year. These claims are usually accompanied by impressive sounding numbers. Are smokers really hurting every stranger in the vicinity? The answer to that question is obvious once you know the facts

That site appears to be completely unbiased and really professionally done. I'm sure the creators have a strong scientific background and are well-qualified to determine what is or isn't harmful to our health.

The site does not claim to have a strong scientific background, what It does is point out flaws about studies that claim SHS is harmful.

It's harmful. Even if it wasn't, there's a pretty sizable population of Americans that are allergic to it.

I see, and if a muslim family moves into a neighborhood where people like to have a barbeque and the muslim family complains that they are offended by the smell of pork then we should ban outdoor barbeques? Cause thats where we are headed.

Eggs and nuts don't fly all over the room while they're being consumed.

Peanut butter on someones breath can trigger a dangerous reaction in some people. My niece is that way, at her school there is a nut free table she has to eat at with a few other kids with the same condition just to be safe.

The only people who don't dislike 2nd hand smoke are smokers.........regardless of whether or not it causes cancer.

I can remember sitting in a car when I was younger with smokers and it almost making me sick being forced to smell it while they finished a cigarette.....

You can't forbid people from eating.

The smell of pork isn't going to have a negative effect on your health. That's not where we're headed at all. It's preposterous to even suggest that.

Where does she eat at your house? :)

Obviously my original post went right over your head.:focus:

Thats what many people said in Tn when NY 1st suggested banning smoking in restaurants and bars some years ago.

who wants to wake up smelling like smoke? while i believe that people should be able to do what they want, i truly believe that eventually most businesses would have gone over to complete nonsmoking eventually by themselves. many hotels are now 100% nonsmoking for example. smokers are a distinct minority in many parts of the country and it's only going to get worse for smokers.

I also believe it would have taken care of itself. When people started to migrate to non-smoking restaurants you can bet owners would have noticed. I just feel it's not something that needs to be forced thru legislation.

Good for you!! And I agree, I choose not to smoke so I don't care for people to smoke on me. This summer I was outside for Live after Five in Uptown Charlotte basically they have live bands down there and I was sitting down with coworkers and a group of people came and sat next to us and blew their smoke around us. I find that very rude, its an outdoors event, plenty of places to smoke, but at least don't blow it in my direction.

I wish that were the case, PJ, and I also wish we didn't need legislation preventing businesses from discriminating against people from different races or religions.
