The truth about fans and this hire.

This fan base has a every right to be restless and raise hell with the leadership. I think 2007 was the last time the team finished in the top 25. You folks bashing the fan base are the ones that need to leave the computer.

He is 52 and his class at Louisville is not that good. He might get us to 7-8 wins. And as far as his defense is concerned go look up how many points Syracuse put on him a few weeks ago.
How many points/yards did Troy put up on us.....go ahead, i'll wait.....

I'll go on record and say I'm happy with the Strong hire and believe he is what we need to get back to where we ALL want to be.

Now its out there and on the record and if I'm wrong then anyone here can come back and find this post and tell me how stupid I was and if I'm right this post will never be heard of and many of the current haters will call me a bandwagon Strong fan and ignore/forget that they were all over the boards calling him a loser and saying we made a huge mistake that would bury us by hiring him.

Pretty much anyone sane would take Bielema over Strong.

And how do we know Petersen or Patterson wouldn't happen? Did we offer them 6 million a year? Did we spend any time trying to woo them?

Arkansas had the right idea: announce that you want to make someone the highest paid coach in college football, throw out offers to the biggest names, and wait for someone to say "Hey I'd like to make a fortune and compete at the highest level". It worked and they got a home run. We went straight after a solid, unspectacular coach almost immediately. It's like we were scared to really even try.

So, are you insinuating I am insane because I prefer a guy who has actually coached at a high level as a coordinator in the SEC over a guy who did very well in the Big 10? I think it's a wash. Recruiting is all about connections--Strong has those in the South. Bielema doesn't. I like Bielema, and his record at Wisconsin is much better than Strong's at Louisville. But consider the difference in circumstances and intangibles, and Strong is better in that regard. Strong will be better in the short run, but Bielema might be better in the long run if his deficiencies for recruiting in the SEC don't sink him too quickly. We'll see. Bielema is an even bigger risk than Strong, in my opinion. Both are risks, though.

We aren't going to offer those guys or anyone 6 million dollars a year. That's simply outrageous and not sensible in any stretch of the imagination. Surely your plan isn't just throw inordinate amounts of money at someone and pray to God that hire actually pans out. For all we know, we could hire a guy at 6 million and then he fails, leaving us in an even deeper fiscal hole.

Unlike you, I will not insinuate mental unsoundness on your part for disagreeing with me, but I will say your argument and plan simply isn't rational.

I could be totally wrong, but I think Strong is not going to do that well here.

I have been against this type of hire throughout this entire process, but this is where we are now. Probably our unwillingness to aggressively pursue a big name and make an offer they cant refuse coupled with the difficulty of this job. This fanbase is very demanding an impatient, but deservadly so. The last 10 yrs have been tough. But really, what big name would want to risk his reputation on this job with all the mountains to climb? I am as disappointed as anyone, but really we could do worse........like if louisville offers more money and incentives. Then we are in scramble mode for sure.

At the very worst we are getting an energetic, defensive-minded coach with a chip on his shoulder. He is well respected in coaching circles, but maybe not as HC.......not yet anyway. He has an SEC history and is familiar with recruiting in this league. FWIW, he would not have been in my top 7-8 coaches but then again I'm not doing the hiring. He is an improvement and thats at least a start........i guess.

No, I really hope he proves me wrong. I'll be happy to own up to it. But I was right about Dooley and I doubt I'll be wrong about this one.

Strong is a solid coach. But he'll never beat Saban and he'll never win a championship here. I know we could have done better.

Would you have believed Sumlin could beat Saban?

He's done it. So has Charlie Weatherbie. So has Gene Chizik.

He's a great coach. But he's not immune from defeat. Indeed, he was an injured field goal kicker away from losing to Kiffin.

What is so bad about a 9-3 season? My biggest complaint against our fan base is how freakishly unrealistic we are. After the last 4 years 9-3 sounds like paradise! We arent going to win the NC every year, nobody can. We arent going to win the SEC every year, nobody can. Lets become realistic folks. Lets build off of some success. Lets put out this 5 year dumpster fire then we can worry about the big win. 9-3? I welcome it!

I am beyond disgusted with the attitude of some of these Tennessee "fans"! Rather than trashing whomever the next HC at Tennessee may (or may not) be, how about trying to support & be positive?!?
I'm pretty sure Savan & Miles weren't national championship winners when they were hired into the SEC. I, for one, will support my university, the next HC & most importantly the young men who currently represent & the ones who will represent my university in the future.
Give the man, whomever he may be, a chance before you start complaining about him. With all the crap that has been posted about nearly every possible candidate, it's a wonder anyone, at all, would be willing to take the HC job.
That's my two cents, I will now step off my soapbox...good night, & GBO!
