Very good analysis. I hope we see some improvement tomorrow but overall good win.

On offense, it's clear that they try to feed the post and it's just as clear that they have no idea what to do if the defense takes that option away from them. They need much better movement from players off the ball, in my opinion. Set more screens, cut, run some set plays. Way too often I see them just passing the ball around the perimeter until somebody says "I should probably shoot this" and chucks a bad shot that may or may not catch any rim.

Defensively, they're a bit slow but they'll improve as they settle into the season. Many of the fouls we commit become bad shots or charges if our man is in position a half-second sooner.

Although Okie State struggled with Akron, Akron is a top 100 team according to Pomeroy's pre-season projections. It'll be an interesting game tomorrow. With the 'Poke's starting center out, Jarnell should be able to run amok tomorrow.

Good thing there's a 10:30 am tip for this thing so all the working stiffs can't enjoy it!

Or those of us who have class from 10-12 that we can't miss...

Golden needs to finsh drives. He gets in the lane and kicks it out. In a sense that's good but he has a lot of open shots.

Didn't watch the game, but looking at the metric stats, Richardson needs to take more shots. He was very efficient today from the looks of things.

It's better to peak in March and not in the preseason tourney. Remember the NIT a couple of yrs. ago.

I wish I knew too. Most didn't watch the game before that went into OT. Most of these people just don't understand that it's the 2ND GAME!!!

I dont think people are that upset.....just discussing the game and their were alot of negatives today....We werent playing good even when they built a bigger lead....Tommorrow is another day and hopefully Tennessee will play a little better.

You cant compare Akron to NC Ashevillee, Akron has a really good club that will be competing for the MAC championship with Ohio....The team we played today will be in the bottom half of its conference.

Actually, UNCA is picked to finish 3rd in their conference. I thought they had a pretty good team. However, the Vols should have closed it out once we got up by 15 points. Should have won by 20+ points.. However, a win is a win. Survive and advance

I guess the coaches' assessment of Richardson's improvement has been correct so far. Deffinitely one of the most improved players early on. And to think there were a few people on here saying he wouldn't be a significant contributor or may even be on the chopping block at season's end.

I don't remember anyone suggesting he would be on the chopping block per se. I do, however, remember a few (myself included) that suggested that he may seek a transfer of his own volition if he was trimmed from the rotation. This was predicated of course, on his offensive game showing no improvement, which it has, albeit only two games into the season.

If he continues his level of play on both ends, his playing time is safe, and thus a transfer unlikely.

I guess I should.have said mid pack team of a bad conference.....I have seen them picked third to sixth....the team we played is not that good.....fairly decent front court and pretty bad guard play.....they lost to nc Wilmington by 8......they are not a good team.....Akron is probably going to be a NCAA team which is why they were only giving up three points to ok state.

That being said its just the beginning of the season and a win is a win.....I haven't seen a lot of people upset.....just seeing a lot of holes in our team right now.and we are trying to build a ncaa resume and these early games count a lot towards that.....go vols take down ok state.

Yeah Richardson looks really improved and I hope it continues.

I seem to remember some suggesting that he may be a candidate for being "Washpuned" if we oversigned in this class. That doesn't seem like it's going to be an issue since we're still looking for a body to fill the final open scholly.

Me also.
I like the improvement so far.

1. Another spot where UT was up by fifteen, ready to close it out, and couldn't. They made dumb fouls, stopped going inside, and made dumb plays. That's frustrating to watch. Stokes getting his fourth foul with 8 minutes to go did affect it.

2. Before we all panic, let's not forget that Okie State almost lost to Akron before. This team doesn't have its most consistent player in Maymon. They played well for 32 minutes and deserved the win. The big issue they have to stop fouling so much. UNCA shot way too many free throws.

3. Bernard King Player of the Game: Kenny Hall. Hall was very active on both ends. He showed nice offensive moves down low. Made a coupled dumb plays, but the positive definitely outweighed the negative today. Had 14 points, 8 boards, took a charge and two blocks. Played pretty decent defense tonight. Very good game from him.

4. UT's offense continues to look better. They had nice spacing and hit the outside shot. McRae, Richardson, and Golden attacked the basket today and got Hall/Stokes easy looks. One problem is when the ball goes in the post, they stop. They need to cut more. They are just looking for the jump shot, or catch and drive.

5. Tennessee's D is good, except when the driver gets into the lane. For some reason, UT's D just is poor right now at helping out. They do well on pick and rolls, ball handoffs, preventing the driver in getting to the lane, but when they do, the posts are late and aren't doing well in forcing UNCA into a bad shot.

6. Josh Richardson has really improved his game. His shot looks ten times better than last year. He attacked the basket with a purpose. His D, again, was really good. Going to be fun tomorrow watching him and Marcus Smart go at it.

7. Really got nothing from Skylar McBee today, and Jordan McRae, while he did nothing spectacular, just played solid throughout. Not saying that McBee should lose his starting spot by any means, but Jordan should continue to see big minutes, especially when Skylar is off and struggling to get shots like today. McRae adds a dimension to your offense McBee doesn't have.

8. Only seven assists today. Not enough ball movement IMO. The offense, at times, looked stale. Golden did a good job driving and dishing, but the posts didn't get open looks for the guards like they did Friday night.

9. UNCA had 18 points off turnovers. Tennessee had 14 turnovers today, and that's still too much. Lazy passes and not handling the double teams were part of that. I also will say I thought UNCA got some calls, especially down low. They shot 29 free throws today and hit 21, and really was the main reason they stayed in the game. But UT has to better at not fouling.

10. Just like Friday, the score was closer than it appeared. UT had the game won, it was just frustrating it going down to 8-10, and not inflating to 18-20. UT again had a bad stretch for five minutes in the second half and it got UNCA back in it. Tennessee can still win the championship, but it has to tighten up their game in order to accomplish that. Stop making silly fouls, limit the turnovers, and go inside to the post for 40 minutes.

Agree with most of youyr post. I thought they improved over the KS game in most areas. However, there are a couple of areas where I thin we needto improved to win today. First, were need to hit a higher % of foul shots. Second, when we are trying to run the clock down, we seem to panic and end up with a forced shot. It seemed that Golden tried to take the ball to the hole everytime and often he should have dished off to open15 foot shot. I realize he usually gets fouled and hit 80% of his foul shots, but a lo of shots are blocked and the chance for a kle injuries are increased. We can not afford to lose him at this point of the season. I think we win today and have a good chance of sweeping in PR.

If so, I missed it. My apologies. Agree that oversigning doesn't seem to be a concern anymore and we may end up with an extra scholly in the end.
