I hadn't been following the contenders at all this year, but a few weeks ago Hatvol suggested in a post taking a look at Cowtown Cat. I watched replays of the Gotham and the Illinois Derby. Very impressive and at a morning line 20-1, that's who I decided to go with.

Heck, its the Derby and its a crap shoot, anyway.

Curlin looks pretty good, too. Unraced as a 2 year old. Very fresh and tons of closing kick in his starts. I was disappointed with Great Hunter's last. Generally speaking, I won't bet on a horse going in the wrong direction, especially three year olds.

Anyone else got thoughts? I actually won't see the race (live, anyway). I'm golfing with a buddy from out of town.

Curlin is creating all the buzz in Lexington right now. I like Scat Daddy.

In a 20 horse field, at a mile and a quarter, and with young horses who can suddenly run into form or throw in a clunker, betting the favorite at the Derby has always seemed to me to be nuts. I did it once (Arazi) and learned my lesson.

Lex, you going to the Derby? I remember flying into Lexington one time. There's a track right over near there -- what's that one called again? I also went on a tour of some horse farms there one time. Beautiful country.

You are thinking of Keeneland. If you have never been, it is a totally different experience than Churchill. I reccomend planning a weekend trip. It runs in April and October. It is beautiful country up here. I spent the first 18 years of my life in south Ga, and fell in love with horse country immediately.

I do not think I will make it to the Derby this year. I considered the Oaks, but I will likely be stuck at work tomorrow and possibly Saturday.

And I was going to ask you to say howdy to the Queen for me...

Are you making an online wager then?

No, I don't do that. The local dog tracks down here let you do it through their simulcasting.
Me neither. When I'm winning or rather normally losing at the casino, half the fun is playing in person, the excitement with that.I don't get this online gambling stuff.
As a matter of fact,I'll be donating money for about three days in Tunica in a week and a half. (maybe I'll win the big one).:crossfingers:

I'm actually going to be in Vegas end of this month, beginning of June. Going to visit a young lasy friend in L.A. for a few days then over to Vegas for 4 days with some friends, then on back here. I know nothing of Tunica. They get wiped out in the hurricanes?

Damn LAW come to the track Sat!

Sorry fine, I'm golfing Saturday. I'm sure they will have a big crowd at the track. Even when I watch that race, I go bet it in the morning and get home to watch on tv so I don't have to deal with the lunacy.

As posted above, I ended up going with hat's suggestion. Heck, he seems as good as any to me and he's the right price... But, to each his own. I know you are going to be the favorite, right? Curlin and Street Sense are both contenders. A lot will come down to traffic issues.

You still like Cowtown?

I do. I am betting $100 to win and $100 to place on him. Hope he goes off at current odds!!!

But he won't. For one thing, he's one of the Pletcher horses and has trained well by all accounts. Got a great post, too. Last, according to reports it may well be a rainy day and either sloppy or borderline. He has the second highest rating (under one of the scoring systems they use) in the entire race for off tracks.

Guarantee you he will become one of the wise guy picks and he'll take some action.

$50 Curlin- Scat Daddy exacta box

If my horse doesn't at least hit the exacta, I hope your wager comes in. In a 20 horse field, that will still be a nice price.

Someone posted that pic or I saw it in a thread of them awhile back. I rmemebr there being a joke about how he's a baby boy and already learning to use the remote and ... other things. LOL.

The mods have given me worse avatars. They are clearly drunk again today.
