The assumptions and mislead dreams I'm sorry to say to our fan base come crashing down Saturday night. I bleed orange. I love all things Tennessee. But the swagger and talk of some fans on here has this Tennessee team ahead of progress. Yes Utah State and Arky State were quality wins. But come on guys let's get real. This game is going to be won or lost in the trenches. And our OL and DL has showed me we can compete with OU yet. Now come Saturday night I'm going to be wearing my orange colored glasses. But let's not talk about being some NASTY anything until we actually beat someone. I will be shocked if we have 50 yards rushing.
Very possible hell even likely but to assume this team won't come out swinging and that at least on defense we can't make some things happen is IMO selling those guys short. Heck Hurd smacked the ASU's nfl prospect LB so hard he was battling rib issues the whole game. It may be ugly for UT but I believe team 118 won't go down without a fight.
We've truly been an #orangeswarm and have been quick to make the tackles. It's been awesome. Not sure how the D will show Saturday but I will say this we have been 2-0, for 3 years before this. Before the 3rd game we have been on here talking..... players are not wrapping up ...yeah we won but too many missed tackles etc..... I have not seen much of that convo this year. Does that translate into a close game , I dont think so maybe closer 1st half and wearing down 3rd and especially 4th quarter. To many key players playing too many snaps.
Yep, ga left Neyland last year with a lot off walking wounded.
Come on DD...not cool. Injuries are part of the game, sometimes they are connected to the physicality of it and sometimes they aren't. Idk if they can be used to show a defense is tough and physical though.
That's my thoughts as well. We have a good combo of both talented youth with some talented experience on D that could produce an outstanding overall Defense THIS season. But a game like this one will give test them all and give them a good idea of what to expect once conference play begins. Even more, it will allow the coaches to better evaluate who is capable of how much and possibly the need to change personnel if necessary. While I will agree that they have played hard and with intensity and swagger the past two weeks, this will truly be a test as to how "nasty" they are.
Let's hope that they are able to play older mentally, and they limit mistakes, and wrap up, especially on open field tackles. Secondary will be tested a lot more in this game.
Very glad we're playing this game. It'll be an awesome benchmark for the freshmen. Won't have too many games more intense than playing #3 Oklahoma on the road for your very first road trip. If they can handle that, they can handle just about anything.
I understand what you mean. Maybe there are less stark ways to illustrate it but imo this defense has a track record of playing very physical.
