We can all agree this program needs an infusion of talent. But we will never progress if we keep cycling through coaches at this rate. The attrition since 2008 is basically the same as a program on probation.

Every coach comes in with their own staff, and suddenly a large % of players are bad fits for the desired style.

Wonder why Missouri is taking names this year? They've been running the same system under the same staff for years. They don't need exceptional talent, merely good talent. And more importantly, they stay. I looked at their recruiting classes of 2010 and 2011, and exactly 5 players have left their program before exhausting their eligibility over those two years. Jones comes in and we cycle through 7 players from the Dooleys final class of 2012!

By the way, Missouri redshirted an average of 13 players a year over the past 4 years. That's a far cry for us throwing in nearly every true frosh we have over the past 4-5 years. Good way to get stomped.

If we had an AD with some football knowledge he would hire replacement head coaches who can either adapt to what they've got and maximize wins or run some permutation of whatever the last guy ran at least to the extent that they capitalize on what was working before. The dumbest thing you can do is hire someone who will come in and tell you that he doesn't have what he needs to run his own system but he's gonna go ahead and run it anyway because he's either a stubborn ass or to dumb to do anything else. Nobody learned from this year and the best part of the team wasn't properly utilized as will be evidenced by how our OL looks in the NFL next year.

College football changes so quickly. Why put yourself further back further. This year's O wouldn't work with any scheme as we run a very diverse offense. We went with a wide range of looks from I-formation to Five-wide. We didn't have the horses this year.

No. The dumbest thing is to hire someone just to chase wins in his first year.

This.

Let's neglect the fact CBJ has won everywhere he's been. He sucks because he couldn't make a bowl with players who don't know how to win.

VN logic.

Continuity is certainly a positive, but it is WILDLY overrated. Good coaches show their form quickly. But if Missouri is the program you want to emulate (and I scoff at that mentality) ... then you still probably have the wrong staff for the job. Jones needs to revamp this staff. And quick.

Yeah, this OL has struggled every yr at Tennessee but is going to dominate the NFL. Right.

Not really. All the great units in the football are able to play instinctually, which comes with masterful knowledge of the scheme. We are no where close to that.

While I agree with you in theory, continuity without progress is a futile thing.

Missouri hasn't won a conference championship since 1969. I'm not saying that is THE program to emulate. If you'd rather substitute in Oregon, Stanford, Ok State, Baylor, go right ahead. None if those team have a top 5 recruiting class...ever. But they're winning for some reason.

Meyer and Saban can win quickly, but they are the exception.

does anyone know where the Vols are staying in Lexington?
Are they just driving up on Saturday since it is a late game?

Seriously, think about what you just posted! A coach should not come in and implement his system but use the system that got the previous coach fired? Then on top of that call a coach who comes in and implements a system that has a history of wining "dumb." Sorry but this is one of the most ridiculous posts I have ever read! The above post needs to be recorded in the history of Volnation as one of the stupidest posts ever. Not saying the author is stupid but you really had a serious meltdown on this one!

What's even more scary IT GOT SOME LIKES! We're doomed!

No offense, but this is ridiculous. Nobody, especially the young guys who will be here the next 3 years, learned ANYTHING this year? I would refute the other points but ... just... no.

If Bray had been the only one to go pro and Rivera had had 1 more year of eligibility...CP and JH still here with Pig and North....and the way we ran the ball in this offense......Butch Jones would look like a Meyer/Saban hire year one. Just seems to amaze me how quickly people forget how much NFL level talent we lost from the offensive side of the ball...and no experienced WR/TE's to fill the cleats.

You better quit being realistic and using common sense! Some posters on here may go into gloom and doom brain overload after reading your posts! On the other hand, I wonder if some of these people are really trolls or just having brain farts!
