The Vandy game is CRITICAL

Milton is the unknown. There is no way the offense will be as efficient and productive with a guy making his first start in over a year. I don't think the Vols will reach 40. Can the defense get any stops? Yes, I said ANY! Probably going to come down to turnovers and penalties.

I’m with you on this.

However I believe the running game could be really good. If Tennessee sticks with it, grinds it out (to some extent) Tennessee could certainly get 200+……..thus really helping Milton and a struggling D.

Tennessee runs for 192 on average. And Vandy’s run D is not good.

Seriously I don't see how anyone can call this season a choke job. Going 3-1 against Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Bama is massive. Yes this last loss sucks, but as long as we bounce back and finish the regular season 10-2 for the first time in almost 20 years I will call it a huge step forward.

How do you explain that same Kentucky team giving Georgia fits? Every week is different.

One thing I will say about Florida and Kentucky, their play has been far more bipolar. We got Florida playing good and still spanked them. We caught Kentucky in suck mode and laid the wood to them!

Our biggest setbacks were against good defenses, rowdy road crowds, at night!

Vandy is a home game of sorts so we have that going for us and they are far from a good defense.
When was florida playing good? When Utah and USF choked or when Kentucky beat them?

I'm not sure Vandy is that much worse than South Carolina. Their last two games they've been pretty good. If our guys are hungry and focused, they should handle them. But if they're not, they won't.

Which should cue our more illusional fans to pocket the arrogance for the nonce.

I agree about the run game.

Actually that is one of the very few things about Heupel and Golesh that concerns me - it seems there is a tendency when we are playing from behind by only a score or less to abandon the run game in an attempt for those quick strike scores to get back on top.
USCe was an example. They had ball first and scored, we returned the favored and scored quickly to tie, they scored again. In our second series we seemed to call pass, run, pass, pass, pass and settled for a FG. I just wonder if we would have done something more in the run game if we couldn't have countered better...

That said, I am very ecstatic about the fact that Heupel has alluded to this very thing in several press conferences this season so it (hopefully) tells me he is aware and knows there is an issue to correct.

We SHOULD beat Vandy. We should have beaten South Carolina too. If we don’t show up prepared and they do we may or may not win but it will be a fight that never should have happened.

South Carolina absolutely should have been a win on paper... but horrific defense aside, people forget that Spencer Rattler was the number 1 recruit in his class and was actually very good for a time at Oklahoma. We have him all night to throw and didn't cover on the back end, and he played like a quarterback with the amount of potential he has should. Vanderbilt does not have that waiting in the wings. Yes the coverage was bad but some of the throws Rattler consistently made were perfect. I doubt we see that Saturday. We just need to be prepared.

Same was said last week about South Carolina. Now, Hooker is gone. It is not crazy to think Vandy can win.

People keep thinking that because we have the ability to beat them that the team can just show up and do it. The two things are not the same. If we don’t I’ll be disappointed. Hopefully everyone who needs to be is focused on doing so.

Fair or not, this is true. Only Kentucky extends a coach after losing to Vandy.
Yep. We don’t tolerate losing by 4 touchdowns nearly to South Carolina and Vandy here. It’s how you finish the big wins over LSU , Florida and Bama will be almost be forgotten if we lose three straight games at the end of the season.

So there is hope to turn this around?

Then the haters and mockers come out of the woodwork to take more stabs at us.

who knows……..I’m no one.

However I would believe these players are fired up. They have been embarrassed and know it’s solely on them. I’m sure the D coaches feel the same way.

I think they come out and play like we haven’t seen in a while.

Make no mistake…….they ain’t great……so they can only do what they can do. However their more than capable of dealing with Vandy.
