The Vol Nation Top 25 Week 2 (Oct 8)

I don't put a number on it and say they need to be "top 40".

I also don't say that just because a team is a rival, that beating them makes it a "Quality" win.

If the team is a succesful team, plays good offense, and good defense, and you can beat them, then it is a quality win.

If a team struggles to beat Duke and has stats somewhere in the middle, to bottom half of the conference.....they aren't a quality win.

A) I can promise you I watch more games than you do. I guarantee it.

B) Yes, its Michigan's fault they don't schedule better opponents.

C) Florida has been the beneficiary of breaks, but their defense from top to bottom is one of the best 3 in the nation ... right there with Michigan's.

D) Notre Dame is extremely overrated. Michigan did benefit from at least 14 points on TO runbacks.

E) Alabama and Wisconsin are very close in how good they are. I shouldn't have had a elipsis (sp?) there.

F) I can't stress enough that I watch more football than you. Unless you watch it when you sleep. :)

G) You're Tennessee love is clouding your unbiased football fan opinion.

H) This is fun.

I) Would you feel better if I amended it to this:

Ohio State
Florida

Michigan

Louisville
Tennessee
West Virginia
Texas

Would you?

A.) I've never seen anybody pat themselves on the back more than that. You didnt pull your shouler out of socket reaching around to your back did you? You are ADAMENT that you watch more football than me, ok great, congrats. But, apparently you arent paying very good attention.

B.) Michigan does not have cupcakes on the schedule. It is comparable with that of Florida. Michigan cant help that conference games are not as strong as SEC games.

C.) Florida's defense is good, very good. But it is not better than Michigan's defense. And, Florida's offense is not as good as Michigan's offense. The Michigan passing attack is on par with Florida and they have a stronger running game.

D.) The bias statement makes no sense. If I was bias towards Tennessee I would want our only loss, a 1 point loss, to be against the best team in the country. There are plenty of posters on here that are saying Florida is the best team in the country just becuase it makes UT look better for the loss. So, there is certainly no bias in this opinion.

E.) You never addressed the fact that Florida did not beat a team of the caliber of Notre Dame in the fashion that Michigan beat Notre Dame. Notre Dame came into the season a little overrated, I'll give you that. But, they are a very good football team.

1) I wasn't patting myself on the back. Someone (you) attacked my credibility by saying I need to watch the games. I was just telling you how wrong you were, because I watch them, analyze them, and breathe college football 7 days a week. As egotistical as this sounds, I have to say it: You don't know more about CFB than me. It's obvious you know a ton, though.

2) Michigan's win over ND was quite impressive. Their win over Vanderbilt wasn't. Michigan is the clear #3 to me, and I think they'd own USC. However, I think the current resume of Michigan (beating ND by a wide margin, beating Wisconsin by a good margin) is not better nor as good as Florida's (beating Tennessee, beating LSU). Margin of victory, IMO, is overrated, and strength of schedule is underrated, at least in national coverage.

3) Florida's defense IS as good as Michigan's, if not better. C. Michigan and S. Miss are comparable teams, and CMU scored against Michigan, whereas S. Miss didn't on Florida. Florida's defense is incredible.

4) Michigan's schedule is ranked 26th right now, and Florida's is ranked 10th. Florida is ranked 3rd in Sagarin's Predictor, which is the part of his rankings that value only margin of victory (and his rankings are connected now, so they are a very good measuring stick). Michigan is 7th in the Predictor.

In the end, I agree Michigan is very good, and IMO, the clear #3 behind tOSU and UF, and squarely ahead of USC, Louis, WVU, and the 1 lossers. I just ask in the future when you want to discuss my assertions, you don't tell me to "watch the games" and insult, in a roundabout way, my knowledge of football.

I coulda SWORE I suggested we not discuss the polls like this, because people would get mad, but someone thought they knew better I guess.

Didn't say I was.

See, that's your problem.

You are too much like me. You are abrasive with people. Which is why I suggested last week, that we be careful and not run anyone off because we are constantly attacking their opinions. I want this poll to be a fun thing. Not something that ends up getting people pissed off each week.

Fair enough. I'll bite my tongue. It is for fun, anyway. Sorry to poo poo on this awesome project. :)

Nah, you're not really poo poo' ing on it.

I just want to make sure everyone keeps having fun with it.

We were venturing toward personal "discussions" the last page or so, and the old Mod in me was coming out, trying to keep things civil.

My remarks were not an insult about you not watching games. You had pointed out that UF should be ranked higher than Michigan because of this stat and that stat. I was just stating an opinion that watching the two teams play was sometimes more important than analyzing stats against uncommon opponents. I appologize if you felt I was being malicious with that comment. It was just meant to present opinion that those stats and opponent records are not the only way to evaluate a team.

I guess we all should just bow down and accept everything that you say about college football as undisputed truth. In fact, why even have an open forum at all? We should change Volnation into a Q and A with Volzona. Who is going to win the national championship this year? I'm going to go ahead and bet all of my assets on your predicition.

This from the most condescending person on this forum.

Anyway, you're about 2 days too late.

You have guaranteed being more knowledgable than another poster. It doesn't get more condescending than that.

I said I watched more games AFTER he insulted me. Yeah, then I did say I knew more. He and I worked it out days ago. No need for more fuel.

I don't see any insult, but that's just my interpretation. I suppose if the remark was retaliatory, than it is acceptable. That would mean your condescending tone was only in response to hostility. I personally feel that the condescension I often employ is in response to hostility or an obscenely absurd remark. A lot of people will probably disagree.

Not sure if its sarcasm, but either way, I shouldn't say stuff like that, to be honest. I'm uber passionate and I'm confident in my knowledge. Still, I was being a jerk earlier, regardless if he called me out or not.

Anyway, let's put this to rest and talk about football again.

No sarcasm. Sarcasm is difficult to detect on these boards. Thus, I try to lay it on thick whenever I use it so that there is no mistake.
