The Walking Dead

They handled the hallucinations ok. The bridge explosion was emotional. And then the rug is yanked out with the helicopter. That is why they are losing fans. Marketing stunts. Surprised they didn’t tag in a “Rick Grimes will see you in 2019 for his first movie”.

The time jump is the only way to carry the story forward. They write themselves into corners. All that being said, I’ll still be watching...

Haven’t watched the episode yet but this movie plan is too much. They are talking about sinking feature film budget into a Rick Grimes TV movie while the main show continues? With the way the show is bleeding viewers I doubt this goes over well.

They should just wrap the show up. Take a 5-8 year hiatus then come back as a nostalgic throwback to re-energize the fan base.

I honestly enjoyed it. I'm interested to see new characters and what has happened with the other established characters. They should have kept the movie stuff under wraps but they ain't that bright.

I think I'm done with watching it live. I will either just let them pile up on my DVR and binge watch 2 or 3 or maybe even just wait and watch them when the season is over. I'm not really excited at all with the way the "reboot" looks and I've already been burned once with Fear's "reboot".

I still don't get Gimple's plans to expand the universe when the ratings and interest for both show were already trending way down, and I seriously doubt the stuff they pulled last night is going to bring in more viewers. Last night's episode might have gotten a sizable bump but many are going to say eff it when they realized they got Dumpstered again.

I think they would be better served with wrapping this version of the show, taking a few years off, then bringing it back.

I thought the episode was good. I don't care for the way it ended with Rick being carried off. I know Lincoln says he is done with the show but they sure left it open for him to come back. I think besides the movies they did that so if the show starts to really tank they could bring him back and get a ratings jump.

I also didn't like that it seemed like they were trying to have Judith replace Rick. A 10 year old bada** is not going to carry the show. And maybe that's not the way they meant it but it seemed that way to me.

Okay, I know I should be talking about the episode that just aired but I have been way behind and just finished up the last 8-10 episodes of "Fear" and am just getting to the new season of TWD.

I want to talk about the 1st episode of the new season a minute. Ever since they made it to the vicinity of D.C. I had been waiting on a trip to the US Capital and/or the White House so we could have Rick or Daryl set in the Oval and we didn't get it! Are you kidding me?

Major let down for me. Just wanted to say that.

The episode was ok. I don’t know how i feel about the wrap up. I partly expected the exit to be ambiguous but then convinced myself he was going to die. I didn’t really think he was going to lay on the rebar hallucinating for an entire episode so I guess I’m not shocked by any of it. My biggest complaint would be they have been teasing this helicopter for like 3 seasons and it doesn’t appear that it will be addressed on this show.

I liked the Shane and Herschel dreams. Sasha seemed out of place for Rick. Kinda reeked of no one else being available. No Carl, Lori, or even Glenn?!?

Honestly though, the absolute worst part of the episode was Maggie’s confrontation with Negan. If your purpose was to kill him why stop for a chat? Why open the cell? Then after crying about being locked up and wanting to die he just cowers back into his cell. That was big time weak.

Now as for the flash forward. The Judith scene was a little hokey but the scenes for the upcoming episodes did look interesting. Carol looked cool with the bow and arrow. The walkers talking was pretty creepy. They needed to make them a threat again, aside from just the occasional herd.

Remains to be seen but Rick leaving may have been a good thing for the show.

The walkers aren’t talking. That’s the Whisperers

Couple of things:

1) I've read Steven Yeun and Chandler Riggs both declined offers to appear on the episode. Riggs you can kind of get since his exit got a bit ugly behind the scenes, and Yeun has reportedly stated he's not interested in going back to TWD in any way. Not sure about the acctress that plays Lori. So my guess is Sasha is the only other one they could get.

2) Maggie's confrontation with Negan is mostly straight out of the comic, though they changed when it happened and the exact scenario.

Honestly, the preview for the rest of the season seemed like AMC begging people to keep watching. I think the ratings will probably keep dropping but they'll stay high enough for them to justify keeping it going for 2-3 more years at least.

Also, apparently Maggie is now gone for the rest of the season. That was also her last appearance this year. I'm not sure how they explain it in the time jump.

While I think the time jump feels a little gimmicky I also think it’s a wise decision if they hope to hold onto viewers. I’ll admit I was intrigued by the glimpses of the characters in the future (or maybe it’s the present catching up?).

How did Carl's exit "get a bit ugly behind the scenes?"

How did Carl's exit "get a bit ugly behind the scenes?"

Chandler and his father stated that Gimple had told them that Carl was in the plans for being in the show for sevearl more seasons. Chandler's family was considering buying a house in the area and weren't going to do it if they were going to kill off Carl, but Gimple told them they weren't so go ahead and buy the house.

Then the very next season is when they killed off Carl and I don't think Chandler even found out until pretty close to when they were about to film the episode. So needless to say, they weren't very happy.

All that hype didn't really pay off in the ratings dept., Rick's "final" episode got a 5.41, only a little higher than the last 2 episodes.

TWD Movies and more spinoffs from Gimple? More "story"?

Meh.

Dynamite between Rick and the river, yet the blast blows him downriver? Right.

Why was there dynamite on the bridge anyway? What were they blasting?

Did I miss them actually showing the blast throwing Rick off the bridge? Also, most of those walkers falling into the river were still “alive”. They still would have been trying to eat a passed out Rick on the river bank.

The dynamite on the bridge was probably some half carried out plan by the saviors that was interrupted with the camp war.

There was no visual of how Rick got from the bridge into the water. You missed nothing. Rick was able to swim to shore and drag himself out of the current. The zombies aren't exactly great swimmer so the current being so strong prevented them from having a chance of making it to shore.
